Is MJF going to join WWE after AEW star delays re-signing new contract? Exploring the possibility

Maxwell Jacob Friedman, better known as MJF, is arguably the hottest property in professional wrestling right now. He is known for his arrogant and disrespectful personality, as well as his excellent mic skills and in-ring abilities

MJF is currently working for All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and he is the current AEW World Champion. Recently, MJF has been making headlines with his claims that he has not re-signed with AEW and that he is open to exploring other options in the wrestling industry.

Is MJF going to join WWE?

MJF has often hinted at his desire to be a “free agent” and has even flirted with WWE chants from the crowd. His recent promo, where he called himself “God’s greatest creation,” was seen by some as a not-so-subtle dig at WWE’s “Godfather,” Vince McMahon. MJF was also seen with 16-time WWE Champion John Cena in a movie premiere last week.

WWE has a history of acquiring top talent from rival promotions, most notably Sting, CM Punk and Cody Rhodes. With Vince McMahon gone and Triple H at the helm, WWE might be more open to bringing in established stars like MJF.

AEW president Tony Khan has downplayed the rumors, stating that he expects MJF to re-sign with AEW. However, he has also admitted that MJF is a “valuable asset” to the company. If MJF were to jump to WWE, it would be a major coup for the promotion. He would instantly become a top star and could be a major player in their main event scene.

Therefore, it is unclear whether MJF will join WWE after his AEW contract ends, or whether he will stay with AEW and continue to be one of its top stars. MJF has proven to be a valuable asset for AEW, as he is one of the most hated and entertaining heels in the business, and he has a loyal fan base that loves to boo him.

MJF’s AEW contract situation

MJF’s current AEW contract reportedly expires in January 2024. While negotiations for a new deal have been ongoing, he’s made it abundantly clear that he hasn’t put pen to paper yet. This has opened the floodgates for speculation, with rumors swirling about a potential jump to WWE.

In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast, MJF confirmed that he has not signed an extension or a new agreement with AEW. When asked about this current contract expiration, he said, “I’ve never lied. January 1, 2024. When stuff like that gets leaked out, it makes me laugh because I remember something getting leaked out about Cody having secretly resigned, and then he showed up”.

He further added, “Somebody got leaked out about, you know, CM Punk and Tony Khan, you know, actually fine, everything. You know? I think fans leak out things that they want to be true. I love AEW. I want to stay in AEW. After this pay-per-view, it’s time to assess the situation from a professional setting”.

MJF is set to defend his title against Samoa Joe in the main event of Worlds End PPV on December 30. It is official that MJF will address his contract details after the event.

Therefore, it is possible that Punk’s return to WWE could influence MJF’s decision, either positively or negatively. MJF could see Punk’s return as a reason to stay with AEW, and to continue to be one of its top stars and leaders or he could make his WWE debut to continue his unfinished rival with Punk.
