Jamahal Hill takes notes from Israel Adesanya ahead of UFC 300 bout vs Alex Pereira

UFC 300, headlined by Jamahal Hill and Alex Pereira, is highly awaited by fight fans across the globe. The stacked PPV card has 13 fights – 5 in the main card and 4 each in the prelims and early prelims but the main event was one of the last to be announced by Dana White, the CEO of the UFC.

Fight fans’ reception to the main event was negative as they wanted an Alex Pereira vs Israel Adesanya III. Interestingly, Jamahal Hill had already taken notes from Pereira’s greatest rival before the PPV headliner at UFC 300.

Jamahal seeks Israel Adesanya counsel ahead of UFC 300 title fight

Alex Pereira has had a storied rivalry with Israel Adesanya in two different combat sports. Pereira is 2-0 against Adesanya in kickboxing and 1-1 in Mixed Martial Arts. Hill, Pereira’s upcoming opponent, has thus sought council from Adesanya as per LowKick MMA.

Hill posted a screenshot of the video call conversation he had with Adesanya on social media. The former light heavyweight champion captioned the post, stating, “Picking one of the greatest minds in the history of the sport.”

Interestingly, Jamahal Hill has not fought since winning the vacant title with a unanimous decision victory at UFC 283 over Glover Teixeira, who served as Pereira’s mentor, coach, and close friend. Teixeira retired after the fight, pledging to coach Pereira to become the best in the business.

Pereira initially struggled after Teixeira’s retirement but bounced back by moving up to light heavyweight and defeating Jan Blachowicz and Jiri Prochazka. The fight against Prochazka in the main event of UFC 295 was for the vacant light heavyweight title, as Hill had to relinquish it due to an Achilles injury.

Adesanya pushed Hill to fight Pereira

After Alex Pereira won the light heavyweight title at UFC 295, he called out Israel Adesanya for a UFC trilogy fight. Adesanya, at the time, was on a self-imposed hiatus after losing the title to Sean Strickland at UFC 293.

However, Adesanya showed no interest in the fight. Hill even revealed the conversation he had with Adesanya after Pereira’s callout. “Izzy already messaged me; he messaged me the same night that it happened and he told me, ‘He’s (Alex Pereira) all yours.’ Yeah, all mine,” said Jamahal Hill on his YouTube channel.

Even though he responded negatively to the callout from Pereira, he did respond positively to the callout from Dricus du Plessis. The South African won the middleweight title at UFC 297 from Sean Strickland and called out Adesanya to fight in the main event of UFC 300.

However, injuries sustained at UFC 297 prevented him from fighting at UFC 300. Therefore, the UFC made Jamahal Hill and Alex Pereira to be the main event for UFC 300. The pair were rumored to headline UFC 301 in Brazil. Pereira has already expressed interest in headlining both UFC 300 and UFC 301.
