Oscar De La Hoya roasts ‘duma**’ Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero after brutal TKO loss to Isaac Cruz

Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero had a tough outing against Issac ‘The Pitbull’ Cruz in the recent PBC PPV headlined by a light middleweight title fight between Sebastian Fundora and Tim Tszyu. Romero suffered a devastating 8th-round TKO at the hands of Cruz.

Preluding the bout with Cruz, Rolly Romero had engaged in trash talks with Oscar De La Hoya, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. After Romero’s defeat, De La Hoya had some interesting choice of words for the former WBA super lightweight champion.

Isaac Cruz defeats Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero

Rolly Romero suffered his first professional defeat at the hands of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in May 2022. However, in his next fight, he fought and won against Ismael Barroso for the vacant WBA super lightweight title, albeit controversially.

However, Romero was unable to defend his title against Issac Cruz in his recent bout. Cruz dominated Romero from start to finish. Cruz rocked Romero multiple times throughout the fight before the referee stopped the fight at the beginning of the 8th round.

Romero absorbed several brutal shots from Cruz and it was a surprise that he did not go down even though he was on wobbly legs. After the fight, Romero was visibly dazed, possibly concussed, as he made some bizarre remarks.

Even though Romero was the champion going into the fight, Cruz was a sizeable favorite. However, nobody expected Cruz to demolish Romero. Nonetheless, with the victory Cruz has a bright future ahead.

The WBC super lightweight title will be on the line when Devin Haney faces Ryan Garcia on April 20. Cruz could likely be next in line for the winner of Haney vs Garcia. Subriel Matias and Teofimo Lopez are also potential opponents. Matias angled for a fight with Haney but did not materialize.

Oscar De La Hoya trolls Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero

Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero had extreme confidence going into the fight with Issac Cruz even though he was a sizeable underdog. However, his devastating loss to Cruz became a reason to celebrate for Oscar De La Hoya.

With a recent social media video, Rolly Romero had earlier trash-talked De La Hoya, and the former 6 division champion rubbed salts on Romero’s wounds. “Rolly! You Dumbass! Getting knocked out. Focus on your opponent instead of focusing on me,” said De La Hoya who urged other boxers to learn from Romero’s mistakes.

“Don’t talk shit about promoters. There’s only three of us in the world!” De La Hoya added as he concluded the 20-second video clip. Romero is signed with Mayweather Promotions, founded by De La Hoya’s rival, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero is not the first boxer to have problems with De La Hoya. Ryan Garcia, a boxer with Golden Boy Promotions, recently made accusations against De La Hoya and his business partner, Bernard Hopkins. However, they have since reconciled.

Canelo Alvarez, formerly signed with Golden Boy Promotions, also had a fallout with De La Hoya and his crew before they went their separate ways as per ESPN. Nonetheless, along with Top Rank, Matchroom, Queensberry, and PBC, Golden Boy is one of the most successful boxing promotions in the world.
