WWE reportedly “not happy” with “naive” Sports Illustrated report foretelling Cody Rhodes’ unsuccessful attempt to “finish his story” at WrestleMania 40

Cody Rhodes’ dream to headline the WrestleMania 40 is gradually fading away in recent days. Rhodes was the potential opponent for Roman Reigns at the main event of WrestleMania 40, but after the return of The People’s Champion, The Rock, the plans appeared to be changed.

Yesterday, the chances of Rhodes facing Reigns at WrestleMania 40 became nearly zero after a report from a trusted source confirmed that Rhodes will not conclude the storyline with Reigns, and WWE has secured a new opponent for him.

Cody Rhodes reportedly to miss out on the chance to “finish his story

According to reports from Sports Illustrated, Cody Rhodes will not finish his story at WrestleMania 40, which is scheduled to take place on April 7, 2024. The reports strongly confirms that Rhodes will not get his shot against Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Championship.

The Rock made a surprising comeback to WWE during a Raw episode on Day 1 and delivered a promo, where he indirectly addressed The Tribal Chief by alluding to “The Head of The Table.” After this the WWE fans and superstars, started making their prediction for the main event of WrestleMania 40, that took off Rhodes from the story.

Rhodes himself addressed this situation in an interview by saying, “Nothing but respect. I’m Rock fan. I don’t think he is the type that would come in and meddle with a story that’s being told over the past two years. I think he is probably up to something else, but you never know with the WWE.”

Rhodes confirmed that The Rock’s return will not alter any of his WrestleMania plans as he is not a type of person who would like to involve in a story line that has been going on for nearly two years. However, with Rock’s involvement as the member of Board of Directors in the TKO group, he has increased his chances for challenging Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

WWE reportedly displeased with the reporting

WWE is displeased with the reports circulating on social media, that leaked the match cards for WrestleMania 40. The report claims that multiple sources close to WWE Head of Creative Paul “Triple H” Levesque have indicated that Rhodes will not headline this year’s event, nor will he “finish his story” at WrestleMania. Instead he will be going against WWE’s ‘Pipebomb Shooter’, CM Punk.

One of the main attractions of WrestleMania 40 is the feud between CM Punk and Seth Rollins that has been brewing since Punk’s arrival. The match between Punk and Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania was the one fans anticipated, but their enthusiasm turned to disappointment upon learning about WWE’s revised plans.

Reports also confirmed that Gunther, the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion will replace Punk in the main event of WrestleMania. WWE is known for changing their plans at the last minute, especially when they are leaked. Being the head of creative, Fans believe that Triple H will surely make changes in the decision and will give what the fans wanted at WrestleMania 40 .
