Year before 3-team blockbuster trade, Damian Lillard named Giannis Antetokounmpo as preferred championship teammate

Damian Lillard just got traded to the Milwaukee Bucks this Wednesday and will be joining the Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo soon. The deal was a three way trade deal between the Blazers, the Bucks and the Suns. Apart from Lillard, many players including Deandre Ayton and Jrue Holiday were also part of the trade and would be playing for new teams in the upcoming season.

An interesting fact in this three-way trade is that Damian Lillard originally wanted to go to the Miami Heat but ended up at the Bucks. However, a year prior to this deal, Lillard had mentioned that playing with Giannis would help him in his journey to the NBA championship. He chose the most popular Antetokounmpo as his ideal partner to help him in his championship run in his previous statements.

Lillard selects Giannis as ideal partner for championship run

Now that Damian Lillard has been traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, it is worth mentioning that a year prior to this blockbuster three-way trade deal, Big Game Dame did an interview with GQ Sports. The interview was done in a fan Q&A format where Dame was asked about who he would pick to help him win a championship. In response Damian replied, “I would pick Giannis”.

Further into the interview, a fan pointed out the possibility of Giannis and Damian playing together as a very successful combo. To which Dame replied, “Dominance”, he further added, “He’s a good play maker. Good defender. Disruptive. And the way he plays, compliments the I way play.”

It would be really interesting to see Damian and Giannis play together, given they both are very offensive players who exert dominance on the pitch and if their chemistry together turns out to be good, it would be very difficult for opposing teams to handle both of them paired up.
