Years after his mysterious departure, CM Punk’s return to WWE appears unlikely as interest remains low

CM Punk has established himself as one of the most legendary superstars in the pro wrestling industry. Throughout his career as a wrestler in both WWE and AEW, Punk has held many titles to his name.

Unfortunately, Second Saint City was just dismissed from AEW for a fight that occurred backstage. Nevertheless, despite the firing, fans were hoping to see CM Punk return to WWE after ten years, although it doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon as indicated in a recent statement by the President of WWE.

WWE’s lack of interest in CM Punk raises doubts about a potential comeback

CM Punk and AEW had an explosive fallout to their professional relationship since AEW CEO Tony Khan fired him for a backstage brawl at the ‘All In’ mega event. Now that CM Punk is a free agent, many fans are curious if he will join WWE once again. However, it isn’t looking very likely to happen, because WWE doesn’t seem to be interested.

While WWE and UFC’s merger went down yesterday, Marc Raimondi spoke with WWE President Nick Khan along with UFC COO Lawrence Epstein. During the conversation, Raimondi asked about WWE’s interest in signing CM Punk. That is when Nick Khan voiced his stance regarding the possibility of Punk coming into their roster.

“Listen, we only have respect for Phil. We appreciate his run here. We appreciate what he did and tried to do with the UFC. Not many people can get in there and do what he did. So, when we have respect for Phil, we wish him nothing but the best.”, he said.

We will have to see what the future holds for the Second Saint City, but Punk might have other options for him as well.

Punk’s WWE departure continues to baffle the wrestling world

A battered body and backstage politics compelled CM Punk to walk away from the WWE in 2014. His story is one of frustration, pain, and wiping the tears before moving on, all to achieve his goal of headlining the WrestleMania with a Main Event.

The Second Saint City exited WWE suddenly in January 2014. Fans were left baffled about what could have caused his departure. Apparently, the moment was no sudden emotional outburst; the crack started back in 2011, the beginning of a slow burn to that eventually exploded into consequences. After a five-star masterwork opposite John Cena, Punk’s stardom rose. His momentum swelled. That elusive spot on the WrestleMania marquee waited for him on the horizon.

However, he was robbed every time of his opportunities. Despite winning the championship he was unable to secure big matches. Punk set an astonishing record of being the WWE champion for 434 days which was a great feat on its own, and yet he was deprived of the limelight he deserved. He was desperate for a big match at WrestleMania which he never got eventually.
