Aston Villa extends contract of manager Unai Emery until 2027

Few managers have left such an impact at their clubs within a short span of time, and Unai Emery is one of them. The Spaniard has found much success in recent years after previous setbacks with Arsenal. As the manager of Premier League club Aston Villa, he has been quite successful with them.

To reward his efforts he has been given a contract extension until the summer of 2027. It is a one year extension on his previous contract, and signals his desire to stay at the club for many years.

After signing the contract extension, Emery reiterated his desire for more success. He said on the club’s website, “We are enjoying our way together with Villa fans, the club owners, management and this great group of players that we are proud of.”

He further added, “We will work to get better and better. And we will demand from each other. Ambition already is, and must always be, the motto of this project.” The contract extension also wards off interest from other big clubs that were interested in the Spaniard, such as Bayern Munich.

Unai Emery and his success with Aston Villa so far

Unai Emery took over the Villa managerial role in October 2022, taking the reins from Steven Gerrard with high expectations from the fans and board. He had just come fresh off winning the Europa League with Spanish club Villareal as well. Soon enough, he managed to transform them into a very good side. This year, they are on course to grab a Champions League spot and could also win the UEFA Conference League, where they are in the semi-finals.

They are currently 4th in the Premier League with 66 points. The closest competitor is Tottenham, with 60 points, two games behind. If all goes well, we could see the club return to the UCL after the 1982ā€“83 season.

Furthermore, they are only three games away from winning a European trophy in the Conference League. It will be their first trophy since their League Cup triumph in 1996. Aside from trophies, Emery has transformed the way they are playing and has impressed against big teams like Liverpool and Manchester City as well, with Pep Guardiola acknowledging him after losing previously this season.

Aston Villa will now focus on their next game in the Premier League against Chelsea and Unai Emery will hope for a strong performance from his boys.
