Copa America 2024: Official venues, teams & schedule revealed for tournament

The upcoming Copa America in 2024 promises to be a riveting competition with the participation of reigning World Cup champions Argentina, who are also the defending Copa America champions. Additionally, the tournament will mark the last dance for certain icons of the game, including Angel Di Maria, who has announced his retirement at the end of the competition.

This 48th edition of the competition will feature significant historic changes as it will be played in the United States, featuring 16 countries as opposed to the usual 10 participating nations.

CONMEBOL has revealed the host venues for the opening and final matches of Copa América 2024, marking the 48th edition of the tournament set to be held in the United States. While the opening and final match locations have been announced, details about all participating venues are yet to be confirmed.

The Copa América 2024 opening match is scheduled for June 20, 2024, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, while the final is set to be held on July 14, 2024, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The 2024 Copa América tournament will be held in the United States, marking only the third time in its 108-year history that the event will take place outside of South America. The draw for the 2024 Copa América is set to take place at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida, on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

The Copa America usually features ten CONMEBOL nations from South America and two guest teams from other confederations, all competing for Copa America glory. However, a few changes have been introduced to its capacity, as it now features the participation of 16 teams all together.

The ten CONMEBOL nations, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela, are automatically qualified for the Copa América.

Additionally, six guest nations will participate, including the four semi-finalists of the CONCACAF Nations League: Panama, United States, Jamaica, and Mexico. While the final two slots are left to be claimed by two of these countries: Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica and Honduras for grabs.

The 16-team Copa América tournament will kick off with a group stage featuring four groups, each consisting of four teams. The groupings for this stage will be determined on Thursday.
