How Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly lost $180,000 since his injury?

The Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo leads the NFL in interceptions (8), alongside the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. However, the Raiders are 3-2 in the games he has played, and except for the interceptions, the signal-caller has been a reliable weapon for the team on the offensive side.

Veteran Brian Hoyer started the Raiders’ week 7 match against the Chicago Bears, and they had to embrace a 12-30 loss. With the loss, the team is 0-2 without Garoppolo, signaling his importance to the squad. However, not only was the team at a loss due to his absence, but QB1 himself reportedly lost a hefty amount in the meantime.

Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo has lost $180,000 since his injury

Garoppolo missed the Raiders match against the Los Angeles Chargers in week 4 due to a concussion, and the week 6 match against the Chicago Bears due to a back injury. Besides mental pressure, the consequence of missing these two campaigns fell financially heavy on him as well.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Garoppolo has a $90,000 per-game-active-roster bonus that he misses out on for every game that he does not play. As he has missed out on two matches already, he would miss out on $180,000 in roster bonuses the past two weeks as well, via Yardbarker.

The signal-caller has only been active for 62 out of 105 regular-season games since 2017. Due to the veteran’s extended injury history, the Raiders revised their contract with him before the regular season. The revised deal includes a waiver for the quarterback if he fails to pass a physical before the season. It also stipulates that he will bear all the risk of any future injury to the foot, as well as any risk associated with continuing to play with the condition.

When is Jimmy Garoppolo expected to return?

According to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo, Garoppolo might be seen in action on the Raiders’ next game against the Detroit Lions next Monday night’s game in week 8. Days ago, Raiders coach Josh McDaniels shared a promising update on the signal-caller’s health, saying he was doing a lot better.

“Seems like we dodged a big bullet. Still doing a couple things… The prognosis was a lot better than it might have otherwise been … good news.”

The 10-year veteran sustained a back injury in the first half of the Raiders’ 21-17 win over the New England Patriots in Week 6. Initially, the injury was not expected to be major, but he had to be subsequently taken to a local hospital at halftime for tests. Garoppolo was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the season.
