Jadon Sancho Injury: Borrusia Dortmund boss provides update ahead of clash vs Heidenheim

Jadon Sancho returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan for the rest of the season earlier in the January transfer window, carrying the motive to regain his form after being sidelined at Manchester United. His return, marks a successful transition from an outcast to a starter, aiming to restore his playing status.

Sancho had originally joined Manchester United from Dortmund, but the ambitious move turned into a forgettable experience for both parties. Persistent injury problems and disciplinary issues, followed by allegations, speculation, and recrimination from the player’s end, led to his exclusion from the team. Now, an injury doubt is threatening his second spell in the Bundesliga.

Jadon Sancho injury update

The 23-year-old attacker has been sidelined from playing with the first team at Old Trafford since September 2023, following a public fallout with the manager. This conflict arose after he asserted on social media that he was unfairly made a “scapegoat.” His refusal to issue an apology to Ten Hag for his statement led to a ban.

The January transfer window provided him with an opportunity to rejoin his former Bundesliga club on loan, an offer he happily accepted to rejuvenate his faltering career.

Borussia Dortmund’s manager Edin Terzic recently suggested that Jadon Sancho might miss their weekend match against FC Heidenheim due to muscle problems. Sancho has been dealing with these issues, leading to his absence from recent training sessions. The manager believes that the injury may be attributed to Sancho’s extended period of inactivity while at Manchester United.

He said, “Jadon Sancho hasn’t been able to train with the team for the last couple of days because he felt some muscle problems in the area of the adductor, which is not surprising after the long break that he had.

“Well see about that now and we won’t take any big risks. Well, see how it develops over the next two days to take a decision on whether he joins us in Heidenheim,” he added.

Jadon Sancho’s performances after return to BVB

In his second stint with Dortmund, the Englishman has hit the ground running, logging double the minutes played compared to his time at Manchester United since the season’s commencement. In January alone, he has made three appearances, including two starts, under BVB boss Edin Terzic.

He marked his second debut as a substitute against Darmstadt and has already recorded two assists, so far. As of now, Borussia Dortmund holds the 4th position in the Bundesliga points table, amassing a total of 36 points from 10 wins, 6 draws, and 6 losses in the current season.

Notably, Borussia Dortmund has secured victories in all three of their recent matches where Jadon Sancho has been part of the team. With a considerable portion of the season remaining, including their upcoming UEFA Champions League Round-16 campaign, the Manchester United loanee will have plenty of opportunities to make an impact despite recent concerns about his injuries.
