L’Jarius Sneed sheds light on uncertain Chiefs future amid rumored move to Titans: “Hopefully I’m still here”

The Kansas City Chiefs have been dominating the NFL spotlight in 2024, clinching back-to-back Super Bowls after the New England Patriots achieved the feat. As they aim to maintain their winning formula, the Chiefs are focusing on retaining key contributors from their Super Bowl LVIII success.

One such player facing impending free agency is L’Jarius Sneed. As the cornerback awaits communication from the Chiefs regarding his contract, the cornerback recently opened up about his perspective on the upcoming negotiations.

L’Jarius Sneed talks about the Chiefs future

L’Jarius Sneed recently spoke about his current situation and future aspirations during a partnership event with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City on Tuesday. The 27-year-old remains optimistic about what lies ahead, despite facing a whirlwind of stressors, including the demands of fatherhood and the uncertainties of free agency.

“My life is fun, but it’s very stressful right now, too. I don’t get sleep at night. I have a kid, a newborn, I don’t get sleep. I’ve got the free agency, you know? It’s a lot going on, but I’m taking it all in at one time,” he said.

Sneed is unaware of the Chiefs’ move and his future in Kansas City. Nevertheless, he expressed his desire to continue his journey with the Chiefs for another season.

“Hopefully I’m with the Chiefs. Hopefully I’m still here. Hopefully we go back and repeat,” he said.

The Chiefs faced a crucial decision this offseason, choosing between placing the franchise tag on either Sneed or star defensive tackle Chris Jones. Ultimately, the franchise tag was placed on Sneed, securing him for the 2024 season with a fully guaranteed $19.8 million. This move gives both parties until mid-July to negotiate a potential long-term deal, demonstrating the team’s commitment to keeping Sneed in the red and gold.

However, amidst the uncertainty of free agency, the Chiefs remain open to various possibilities, including a potential long-term contract extension or even a trade involving Sneed. The franchise is committed to exploring all avenues to ensure the best outcome for both the team and the player.

The Chiefs have already secured Chris Jones after the defensive tackle publicly stated his desire to win a three-peat with the Chiefs. In addition to Jones, they also brought back linebacker Drue Tranquil, safety Deon Bush, and long-snapper James Winchester.

Titans interested to bring in L’Jarius Sneed

L’Jarius Sneed is currently at the center of trade discussions, drawing interest from several NFL teams, with the Tennessee Titans prominently mentioned in active trade scenarios. Aaron Jones has reported that the trade dialogue is ongoing.

No firm offer has been made yet, but there is ongoing and active dialogue surrounding Sneed’s potential trade. It indicates serious interest from the Titans, as reported by Dov Kleiman.

The Titans view the two-time Super Bowl winner as a valuable addition to their defensive lineup, considering his proven track record and championship experience.

Lifelong Chiefs player L’Jarius Sneed played out the final year of his four-year $3.9 million contract in 2023, showcasing his prowess in 16 games for Kansas City. His impressive season statistics include 78 total tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions, a fumble recovery, and 14 pass defenses, further enhancing his appeal to potential suitors.

The 27-year-old cornerback has been a fixture in the Chiefs’ lineup since his selection as the No. 138 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft. However, the current trade discussions hint at the possibility of a new chapter in Sneed’s career, with multiple teams expressing a keen interest in adding his talent to their defensive rosters.
