Luis Enrique discusses the bond with Kylian Mbappe, urges him to stay at PSG amid transfer speculations

Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique is settling into life in France after an illustrious managerial career. The Spaniard was appointed in charge of the Ligue 1 champions earlier this summer. Despite a turbulent start, the Parisians’ season is now heading in the right direction.

Kylian Mbappe, the French star, stands out as the most prominent name for Luis Enrique in the squad. Despite past criticism from the boss, Enrique still rates Mbappe as the ‘best player in the world’ at present. Recently, he disclosed details about his relationship with the player.

Luis Enrique talks on relationship with Kylian Mbappe

The relationship between Kylian Mbappe and Luis Enrique has been a recent talking point, with speculation suggesting that the Frenchman and the boss are not in agreement, potentially stalling their terms. This speculation gained traction when Mbappe was visibly frustrated by the team’s tactical approach during the UCL clash against Dortmund.

The former Barcelona boss cleared the air in his recent talk ahead of their league match-up against FC Metz, insisting to reporters that his relationship with the forward is perfect and shedding light on the situation.

Enrique revealed, “As always, a perfect relationship, We’re not a couple, but mainly because he’s the one who doesn’t want to (smile). I don’t know why you keep asking me this question. I’m very close to most of my players.”

“We have always been very close with Kylian. He makes jokes [and] always laughs. I also like to laugh. We have a very good relationship with the rest of the players.”

He added, “Kylian will score 50 goals with all the coaches. I get along very well with him. There’s a lot of information in the press but I have a great relationship with Mbappé”.

Enrique’s response when questioned about his preference between a contract extension for the French international or reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League was interestingly both. He stated, “Going to the UCL quarter-finals or Kylian Mbappé signing a new deal? I’d pick both!”

Kylian Mbappe transfer rumors

The French champions PSG reclaimed their top spot in the league standings following their recent 3-1 victory over Metz at Parc des Princes on Wednesday. Kylian Mbappe, who celebrated his 25th birthday, scored twice at home to secure all three points for his side.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from Paris, with a potential transfer in the summer of 2024, as talks between the club and the 25-year-old player have stalled. Additionally, during this past summer, he was strongly rumored to be heading to Real Madrid. However, the forward reinstated his position in Enrique’s lineup.

Mbappe’s terms with head coach Luis Enrique will play a key role in the decision of the 2018 World Cup winners to sign a pre-contract agreement in January, extending his stay with Parisians. This commitment is anticipated to lead them to the Champions League trophy this season.
