Luka Modric to join boyhood club Dinamo Zagreb after Real Madrid contract expiration?

Luka Modric has been one of the best midfielders in the world for the past decade, undoubtedly establishing himself as a legend for both Croatia and Real Madrid. He orchestrated the midfield as Madrid clinched three successive Champions League titles and numerous other trophies. The Croatian also led his country to a World Cup final in 2018 and a semi-final finish in 2022.

Despite his advanced age, he continued to perform exceptionally for club and country. However, after signing a one-year extension deal last summer, he has seen limited game time and may finally leave the Spanish capital. Additionally, he has received a lucrative contract offer from a familiar place.

Will Luka Modric join Dinamo Zagreb?

Real Madrid will always love Luka Modric, but the club is now more focused on the future. With many young midfielders in the squad, such as Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Eduardo Camavinga, Modric is not getting the game time he wants from manager Carlo Ancelotti. The club is also considering to give a farewell to the legend and let him leave when his contract expires.

Modric wants to keep playing, so retirement is out of the question. He is already expected to receive many contract offers from the Saudi Pro League and the MLS, which would sure to be attractive packages. Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami is said to be one of those clubs among many others. But new reports suggest another strong contender.

Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb are keen on having the player join them next season. It is the player’s boyhood club where he made his name before eventually joining Tottenham Hotspur and then his current club Real Madrid.

Reports have indicated that Dinamo Zagreb president Mirko Barisic has already contacted the player to discuss a potential reunion. Modric is seriously considering it, and a final decision is expected after he completes the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament with Croatia.

When does Luka Modric’s Real Madrid contract expire?

Luka Modric could have left last summer when his contract expired, and despite receiving many big offers, he decided to sign for another year. This decision was made on the condition that he would be given as much playing time as before. However, that has not been the case, and the player is now frustrated.

His current contract will end on June 30, 2024, after which he will be able to leave the club on a free transfer. As he has not signed any contract extension yet, he is already free to discuss a move with any clubs. Madrid has shown no indications of a contract extension, with no developments at all.
