Manchester United reportedly eyeing Thomas Tuchel as Erik Ten Hag replacement

Manchester United are in the FA Cup final, but their troubles don’t seem to be ending anytime soon. The Red Devils barely managed to scrape a victory against Championship side Coventry City yesterday in the semi-finals, needing a penalty shootout to advance.

Many fans have been calling for the sacking of head coach Erik ten Hag for quite some time now. The new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is now said to be increasingly pressured to fire the Dutchman at the end of the season. Talks over a new manager are reportedly underway already, with the latest name to be linked to the club being a surprising one in Thomas Tuchel.

The Bayern Munich boss is also set to leave the club at the end of the season after a disappointing campaign with the Bavarians. Ratcliffe is already making big changes behind the scenes on the board. The British billionaire is said to be very appreciative of the Germans, and likewise, Tuchel wants to join United as well. Tuchel boasts a great CV as well, having won many titles, such as the Champions League with Chelsea.

According to the Mirror, contact between the two parties has already started but it will still take more negotiations to fully reach a final conclusion. Aside from Tuchel, United are interested in the likes of Thiago Motta and Gareth Southgate.

Will Manchester United sack Erik ten Hag?

There is still the question of whether Erik ten Hag will be finally sacked by Manchester United. The Dutchman has already seen a disastrous campaign so far, getting them knocked out of the Champions League group stage itself and being stuck at just 7th in the Premier League. With only a year left on his contract, he has lost the support of his fanbase and, reportedly, the dressing room as well.

Previously, it was said that there were two conditions to let him stay on for another season, and they were winning the FA Cup and grabbing a Champions League spot. However, the latter is unlikely to happen. The Red Devils are now in the FA Cup final, where they will face Derby rivals Manchester City. The odds seem against them, but Erik ten Hag will need to work wonders if he wants to stay another season.

Manchester United will next face Sheffield United on Thursday in the Premier League, and they will hope for a win to boost their season.
