NBA community demands Dwight Powell to be “suspended indefinitely” after Kyrie Irving spotted walking on crutches

Kyrie Irving has been performing at a high level in the league. Unfortunately, his time with franchises he has played for has greatly been hindered by injuries and some controversial issues leading to fines and suspensions. But this seems to have changed as the Mavericks have been fortunate to have a fit and healthy Irving until he was injured recently.

Kyrie Irving sustained an injury in a game against the Portland Trail Blazers that has prompted fierce fan reactions already, with fans calling for immediate action to be taken against his teammate Dwight Powell.

Kyrie Irving’s injury update

On Tuesday evening, the Dallas Mavericks hosted the Los Angeles Lakers in Texas, but they were without one of their key players as Kyrie Irving had been ruled out. This marked his second consecutive absence, following a missed game already.

Head coach Jason Kidd informed reporters about Irving’s condition on Tuesday before the team’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers. As of now, there is no specific timeline provided for Irving’s return to the court.

Irving sustained an injury during Friday’s matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, leading to an MRI that revealed a right heel contusion, as announced by the Mavs PR on Saturday. The update mentioned Irving’s return to Dallas for treatment. In the 17 games played this season, Irving has maintained a top-level performance with an average of 23.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. His shooting percentages stand at 47.1% from the field and 38.4% from three-point range.

The Mavericks, with a 14-8 record in their initial 22 games, currently hold the third seed in the Western Conference. Despite a 5-5 record in their last ten games, the team is riding a three-game winning streak. Following the Lakers matchup, the Mavericks are set to play the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday evening.

Fans blast Dwight Powell for injuring Kyrie Irving

Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving is currently wearing a walking boot and relying on crutches for his right foot injury following the incident which took place in the late second quarter against the Trail Blazers when Irving drove into the paint and faced pressure from two defenders. Despite appearing to land awkwardly on his left foot, the injury occurred when his teammate, Dwight Powell, fell onto his right foot.

Kyrie Irving’s injury has prompted angry reactions from NBA fans. The fans who are usually not patient over issues of this magnitude, have recently roasted Powell. Despite Irving’s injury being an unfortunate event involving his teammate Dwight Powell who fell on him, it wasn’t done deliberately by the player. However, some NBA fans have raised their voice to call the NBA to suspend Powell indefinitely, feeling Powell should have avoided running into Irving.

Another fan tweeted the level of hate he has for Dwight Powell after the incident that caused Irving’s injury, saying, “Powell i hate you so much”

The angry call from fans rose to another level when another fan posted, “Dwight Powell shouldn’t be allowed in Texas”.

While more angry fans’ tweets are expected to emerge on social media platforms, it is important to note that the fans are just reacting based on the incident which seemed avoidable. However, we hope Irving recovers quickly to help the team continue its quest for an NBA title.
