This season hasn’t been one to write home about for the Los Angeles Chargers. They have been lackluster in many games and the team couldn’t string together a run of good performances for long.
Part of the reason for the franchise not qualifying for the playoffs this year was bad management right from the very top. That is why the front office is now looking for Dawn Aponte to fill in for the role of general manager of the franchise. Let’s take a look at some of the new NFL trade rumors.
Aponte’s diverse background: From front offices to the NFL’s pinnacle
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Los Angeles Chargers are now looking towards appointing Dawn Aponte as general manager for the franchise. The 53-year-old is reputed to be a master at her craft and the Chargers faithful will be hoping that their front office is able to push the deal through.
The offseason will prove to be a very crucial time for the Chargers as they look to resurrect their outfit for the upcoming year. Aponte will be a perfect candidate for this job. She embarked on an extensive tenure with the Jets organization at the onset of her executive career, eventually advancing to the position of senior director of football administration. Following a three-year term at the league office, she moved on to the role of vice president of football administration for the Cleveland Browns in 2009.
Chargers explore unique pathways for General Managerial role
While most of the other franchises are looking towards poaching administrative candidates from other teams, The Los Angeles Chargers are going down the other route and trying to sign Aponte, who holds the position of NFL chief football administrative officer.
The good news is that Aponte has also interviewed with the franchise, showing genuine interest in league management. However, the Chargers faithful will be hoping that the seasoned veteran will be able to rope in new talent and transform the team into a force to be reckoned with.
Apart from a few starlets emerging from their ranks, the season hasn’t been worth remembering for the Chargers faithful. The likes of Kyren Williams and Puca Nacua have lit up the league but they were the only shining lights in what turned out to be a disappointing year for the outfit.
