Transfer rumour: Everton starlet Jarrad Branthwaite becomes top priority signing for Manchester United

Manchester United has been making vigorous efforts to finish among the top four in the Premier League standings. They had a brilliant start to the year with a seven-game unbeaten streak domestically. However, they suffered two consecutive defeats against Fulham and Manchester City in the derby.

Most recently, in their latest league outing, the Red Devils managed to secure a 2-0 victory at home against their historic rival Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday. Meanwhile, they have set their sights on the Toffees’ promising defender, Jarrad Branthwaite, as a summer transfer prospect.

Jarrad Branthwaite under Man Utd radar

The fallen English giants, Manchester United, currently placed 6th on the table, are planning to bring back their glory days and take the club ‘back to the top’ under the new leadership and supervision of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the co-owner and head of sporting operations at the club.

The club has prepared a list of summer targets for a major squad revamp. They aim to offload some of their big earners to navigate financial constraints and spend substantially on new names. This strategy is devised to strengthen the squad ahead of next season and ensure competitiveness with other big clubs.

According to multiple reports, Manchester United have identified Everton’s English center-back, Jarrard Branthwaite, as a top target to pair up alongside Lisandro Martinez for long-term defensive reinforcements. The 21-year-old is under contract with the Merseyside Club until 2027, and they have set a £75 million price tag on their defender, who is attracting significant interest.

Earlier reports suggested that the club could part ways with several of their defensive options. Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and Raphael Varane are likely to depart Old Trafford at the end of the campaign. Additionally, Harry Maguire is also on the list of potential departures.

Jarrad Branthwaite’s season with Everton

The Toffees have been grappling with a disappointing season, standing three places above the relegation zone, particularly after facing a 10-point deduction for violating the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PRS). Despite all the challenges, their center-half Branthwaite is enjoying a stellar individual season.

The English Under-21 has seen his stock rise due to his promising outings, known for his strong aerial presence and solid build-up abilities. He is among the best young defenders in the EPL, attracting keen interest from big clubs.

Branthwaite has been a pivotal cog in Sean Dyche’s team, delivering impactful performances at the heart of Everton’s defense, with 31 appearances so far in this 2023/24 campaign.
