WATCH: UFC stars react wildly to Max Holloway’s brutal KO of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300

UFC 300 featured several finishes, but none were as brutal as Max Holloway’s one-punch knockout of Justin Gaethje with just a single second left in the fight. Many superstars of the promotion were in attendance to watch the coveted PPV in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they were all treated to an exciting BMF title fight.

Max Holloway was leading 3-1 on two scorecards with only seconds remaining when he challenged Gaethje to step into the middle of the octagon and trade shots. As they stood toe-to-toe, a flush right straight from Holloway sent Gaethje crashing face-first onto the canvas. Among others, Israel Adesanya, Ilia Topuria, Belal Muhammad, Kamaru Usman, Dricus du Plessis, Sean O’Malley, Valentina Shevchenko, and Michael Chandler reacted in bewilderment to the knockout.

Adesanya was already on his feet when the duo began exchanging blows. As the knockout happened, Adesanya put his hand on his head, similar to what Gilbert Burns did. Topuria and Chandler could not believe what they saw. Dricus du Plessis, Sean O’Malley, and his coach also had an animated reaction.

Valentina Shevchenko, seated at the time, stood up in disbelief as the knockout occurred, her expression petrified. Nobody expected Holloway to knock out Gaethje. The prevailing sentiment was that, if a knockout were to happen, it was expected to favor Gaethje.

Max Holloway becomes BMF champion

The BMF belt has a new owner, and he is none other than the Pride of Hawai – Max “Blessed” Holloway. The former featherweight UFC champion went in as a sizeable betting underdog against Justin Gaethje in the featured bout of UFC 300 per MMA Junkie.

Nevertheless, the fight played out opposite to people’s expectations as Holloway’s activity, footwork, and variety of strikes dismantled Gaethje. With the knockout of the most violent fighter in the UFC roster, the Hawaiian solidified his status as the ‘Baddest Motherf**ker’ in the UFC.

The Hawaiian’s spinning backkick hurt Gaethje on numerous occasions as Gaethje covered up with his head down. The first backkick he threw even broke the nose of the Highlight. Now, with the signature victory, Holloway put him in a position to fight either for the featherweight or lightweight title.
