Barcelona Transfer News: Deco reluctant to sell Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong amid interest from Bayern Munich

FC Barcelona are currently undergoing a season to forget. The 2022–23 Spanish Champions suffered an exit from the Copa del Rey in the quarterfinal, followed by a 5-2 home defeat against Villarreal in La Liga. The Catalans are currently in third place in the league table, trailing by 8 points behind their fierce rivals, Real Madrid, following two successive league wins.

Their poor performances have prompted their boss, Xavi, to announce his resignation at the end of the season, and there are rumors that key players from the club will be parting ways at the end of the season. However, their sporting director, Deco, provided a vital update on the future of two key figures.

Barcelona’s star duo Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong have recently attracted attention from top clubs. The Uruguayan defender is entangled in transfer speculations linking him to Bayern Munich, while the Dutch central midfielder is being pursued by Premier League clubs.

The club’s sporting director Deco, who is a former Barcelona player as well, cleared the air regarding the intensifying rumors, insisting that the duo is not for sale despite rising financial constraints. “We’d like not to sell any top players in the summer. It’d be a mistake to sell Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong. I’d like to improve the squad, not to sell players,” he stated.

Araujo and De Jong are both under contract with the Blaugrana until 2026 and are considered crucial assets for the club. Consequently, there is consideration of extending their contracts to ensure they remain with the club for a longer period. Both players are fully committed to the club and are not considering moving away.

Bayern Munich interested to sign Ronald Araujo

Ronald Araujo has established himself as one of the best defenders in recent times, possessing all the required capabilities of a modern-day center-back, including pace, physicality, leadership, and versatility. His attacking threat and ability to play as a full-back further enhance his value.

Earlier, it was reported that the Uruguay international was on the transfer list of Bayern Munich, with boss Thomas Tuchel personally trying to convince Araujo of a potential move to the Allianz Arena. The Bundesliga side remains interested in his signature; however, Barcelona has no plans to sell him.

The 24-year-old played a key role in Barcelona’s title-winning campaign last season and continues to be a standout name. Currently, he is serving as the captain of the club in the absence of the regular captain. He has made a total of 25 appearances and scored one goal across all competitions this season.
