Harden’s Houston Dynamo FC taste Cup success

Viewers who watched the 108th U.S. Open Cup final on Wednesday night might have been a bit surprised to see NBA superstar James Harden at DRV PNK Stadium. Harden came to Fort Lauderdale because the Houston Dynamo were playing in the final against Inter Miami, who were missing Lionel Messi due to injury.

Harden had a frustrating summer as he tried to leave the Philadelphia 76ers but couldn’t make it happen. However, on Wednesday, the 34-year-old, who is also a co-owner of Houston Dynamo, had something to celebrate. Videos of Harden watching the game and later celebrating Houston’s fantastic first half became viral, taking some attention away from the absent Messi.

Harden’s connection with the Houston Dynamo goes back to his time with the Houston Rockets. In the summer of 2019, he agreed to own a minority stake in the club, which had been playing in Houston since 2006. Since moving from San Jose in 2006, the Dynamo has won the MLS Cup twice, has participated in two Open Cup finals and are valued at $435,000,000 currently. Even though Harden has moved on from his Houston days, he still maintains strong ties to the area through his support for soccer.
