Following Bruno Fernandes harsh remarks on Andre Onana, Manchester United legend slams club captain for not taking ‘responsibility’ during UCL clash against Galatasaray

Manchester United UEFA UCL clash against Galatasaray did not go quite as planned as Manchester United conceded a two-goal lead twice in Istanbul. It is quite arguable that a bulk of the blame would be inevitably ascribed to Andre Onana following his expensive errors dealing with Ziyech’s free-kicks.

After the game, Bruno Fernandes shared his thoughts on the cheap goals conceded by the Manchester United goalkeeper, aiming a sly dig at him. However, Paul Scholes has fired back at the United captain, encouraging him to take responsibility as the team now faces a longer road to knockout stage qualification.

Bruno Fernandes takes sly dig at Andre Onana

Bruno Fernandes expressed deep disappointment after witnessing Manchester United concede “really bad goals” during their match against Galatasaray, where they twice surrendered a two-goal lead, resulting in a draw.

Andre Onana shoulders much of the blame as Manchester United conceded a two-goal lead twice in Istanbul. The goalkeeper’s performance came under scrutiny, particularly in dealing with Hakim Ziyech’s free-kicks, with the second one slipping past him despite making contact with the ball.

Bruno Fernandes expressed disappointment with his team’s collapse in the second half, emphasizing that despite their dominance and numerous chances, they failed to secure the victory.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the disappointing draw, Bruno said, “It’s really hard. We conceded really bad goals. We have to take control of the situations in all of them. We were on top of the game twice and we had far too many chances to have the game closed. We were not clinical enough. I have nothing to explain.

“We concede the two goals and there’s nothing we can do now. Obviously we could have done better with those two goals but it is what it is. Every time we conceded a goal we had many chances to score again. At the end of the game we had four chances. We have to lift our heads up and try to get the best players in the best positions and not take chances ourselves.”

Bruno Fernandes continued further: “It’s too hard to be honest, I don’t want to be too negative. But what we have been doing in the Champions League is not enough. It is not the first game we’ve had like this. We have to secure the result.”

“We have to understand in these types of games and stages we have to be smart enough and manage the game better. Everyone has to step up and take responsibility of their own mistakes. Now we don’t depend on ourselves but it is what it is.”

Paul Scholes slams Bruno Fernandes

Paul Scholes has responded to Bruno Fernandes’ post-match criticism by urging the Manchester United captain to “take responsibility.” Scholes emphasized that Fernandes was responsible for “giving away two stupid fouls that led to goals” during their 3-3 draw against Galatasaray.

Bruno Fernandes, after the match, emphasized that the goals conceded came quite cheaply. He stressed the need for the team to have better control of their games and ‘manage the game better.’ He emphasized that United have not really done well enough in the Champions League.

Paul Scholes, in his response to the United captain, stated: “I know in his interview he is talking about mistakes, but he made two big mistakes tonight by giving two stupid fouls away that lead to two goals,’ Scholes said to TNT Sports.” The full team, including himself as the captain, have to take responsibility – it’s a game they should win.”

“They just cannot keep clean sheets – the defence is all over the place, the keeper is making mistakes, Bruno giving away cheap free-kicks.

‘It makes the game difficult for them every time and they don’t need to do that.”
