Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ consecutive Super Bowl victories post-Tom Brady’s era, the team and its jubilant fanbase came together for the Chiefs Super Bowl parade. However, amidst the celebrations, the spotlight shifted abruptly due to a tragic shooting incident that occurred during the parade.
In the wake of the Chiefs parade shooting, Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce have added their voices to the ongoing conversation surrounding the unfortunate events of what was supposed to be a “red-letter day” for the Chiefs city.
What did the Kelce Brothers say about the Chiefs parade shooting?
In the latest preview of their “New Heights” podcast, Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce took a moment to address the tragic events that occurred in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, just ahead of their upcoming episode scheduled to debut on Feb. 21.
Travis shared the need to address the Super Bowl parade shooting incident in Kansas City before airing their pre-recorded episode.
“We have a pre-recorded episode for you guys coming up on Wednesday but after the tragic events at the Super Bowl parade in Kansas City, it didn’t feel right without you hearing from us first,” Travis Kelce said.
Travis also revealed their plan to provide a link to the emergency response fund of the Kansas City Chiefs, enabling individuals to make donations. Later, Jason Kelce joined his brother in extending condolences for the victims of the shooting incident.
“We just wanted to say our hearts go out to all of the victims, their families, Chiefs kingdom and really all of Kansas City that was there on a day to try to celebrate the community,” Jason added.
The shooting incident took place as the parade at Kansas City’s historic Union Station was wrapping up, leaving twenty-two people injured and tragically claiming the life of one individual, identified as Lopez-Galvan. Police Chief Stacey Graves provided additional information, stating that the injured individuals were between the ages of 8 and 47, with half of them being under the age of 16.
Following the incident, authorities took swift action, arresting three suspects. Subsequently, it was announced on Friday afternoon that two juveniles had been charged in connection to the mass shooting.
Top contributors to Chiefs Super Bowl parade shooting fund
In response to the Chiefs parade shooting incident during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, the Chiefs have collaborated with the local chapter of the charitable organization United Way. Together, they established an emergency fund to aid victims, first responders, and organizations dedicated to violence prevention.
The Chiefs, along with the Hunt Family Foundation and the NFL, announced a substantial $200,000 donation to support this initiative, per Yahoo.com.
Pop sensation Taylor Swift contributed to the cause by donating $100,000 to the family of the woman who lost her life during the parade. Swift’s generous contribution was directed to a GoFundMe page established to provide crucial financial support, originally with a target of raising $75,000 for the late Lopez-Galvan’s family.
Following Swift’s lead, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, through his organization Eighty-Seven & Running, made a significant $100,000 donation, delivered in two installments of $50,000 each.
Other than celebrities, a local bakery in the surrounding suburb joined the efforts by decorating cookies with messages of “KC Strong” to raise funds for the cause. Chiefs’ Quarterback Patrick Mahomes contributed $50,000 to the fund and actively encouraged his fans to participate through his foundation, @15andMahomies, urging them to support and contribute if they were able to do so.
