Rob Gronkowski weighs in on Chiefs’ potential dynasty threat to his Patriots legacy

In the competitive landscape of the NFL, getting labeled as a great player might be quite challenging and the feat of becoming an actual game-changing legend is even tougher. Nevertheless, New England Patriots’ former tight end Rob Gronkowski successfully unlocked the achievement alongside quarterback Tom Brady during their respective careers.

The duo introduced a new era in New England after winning multiple Super Bowl titles for the franchise in two decades. However, following Gronk and Brady’s retirement, the Patriots seemingly lost their charm and Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs squad now emerged as a new threat in the league following consecutive success.

Gronkowski reflects on potential NFL dynasty

During his interview with Kay Adams, Rob was asked about his thoughts on the possibility of the Chiefs beating the Patriots’ Lombardi trophy record. He showcased optimism in Pat’s team’s caliber and said they might attain it in the league.

“If we didn’t beat them the year that we were in Tampa, it will definitely be a close race now. It would possibly be tight. It doesn’t really come to my mind. I mean, it’s definitely obtainable. They can definitely get to that level.”

The TE was also asked if he thinks that the Chiefs can be another great dynasty in the NFL after the Patriots. However, he didn’t accede to keep Kansas City over New England saying even if the Chiefs earn another Lombardi trophy in the next three years, they will never be as great as his former team.

“If the Kansas City Chiefs do win another Super Bowl within the next three years, I would say that they are one of the greatest dynasties of football, but not as great as the Patriots. That dynasty was just unbelievable going from 2003 to 2019. That lasted about 15 or 16 years.”

However, the retired NFL star didn’t halt back from heaping praise on Mahomes and his squad for their incredible athleticism and team effort and also raved about Kansas City’s head coach Andy Reid for his excellent coaching skill.

How many Super Bowls did Gronk win with the Patriots?

Gronk won his first three Super Bowls with the Patriots from 2010 to 2018 before earning his fourth and final Super Bowl by donning Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey. His Lombardi trophy glory for the Patriots includes Super Bowl XLIX (2015), Super Bowl LI (2017), and Super Bowl LIII (2019) while earning Super Bowl LV for the Bucs in 2021.

The 34-year-old played in 6 Super Bowls, albeit he could not appear in the Super Bowl LI game against the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 and hence, he has five appearances with a 3-2 record. The two losses include the Patriots’ defeat against the New York Giants in 2012 with the second one coming against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018.

Rob has been one of the most phenomenal players during his career in the league. He holds the record of always playing in a postseason and for most receiving yards (297) by a player in his position in Super Bowls history.
