Kobbie Mainoo to get reward for dazzling display, months after Gary Neville’s Manchester City warning

Kobbie Mainoo has been Manchester United’s breakout star this season. The young Englishman was handed his debut last season in a league cup game, and boy did he impress! He continued his development on the youth team until the pre-season tour in the United States, when he traveled to the States with the first team for a taste of first-team football.

Since returning from an injury he sustained on that tour, which kept him out for a few months, Kobbie Mainoo has gone from strength to strength to become one of United’s most important players. After a series of mature displays from the 18-year-old, there are now reports that United may offer the youngster an improved contract.

Kobbie Mainoo reportedly to receive contract extension with Manchester United

Kobbie Mainoo has shown a high level of maturity and consistency since being integrated seamlessly into the first team at the start of the season. Although an injury he suffered on the pre-season tour threatened to derail his season, Mainoo has returned to become one of United’s best players alongside fellow academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho.

Mainoo has now scored two goals in his last five appearances for the club, including a late winner against the Wolves earlier this month. His incredible performances have reportedly made the club decide to hand him a new and improved deal, with Fabrizio Romano breaking the news yesterday.

“Understand Manchester United have already prepared a new contract proposal for Kobbie Mainoo,” the journalist reported on Twitter.

“Initial discussions already took place with his camp to advance in talks over a new deal. Manchester United want Kobbie to be a crucial part of the project with salary rise also included,” he concluded.

Gary Neville fears for Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo’s performances this season have earned him a lot of plaudits from pundits, including former Manchester United captain Gary Neville. The young Englishman with Ghanaian roots has impressed in the heart of midfield for United, and one of his best performances came against Everton, which made Neville lavish praise on him.

“It was impressive, and there’s no point getting carried away by it because the reality is he’s got 17 or 18 years in front of him,” Neville said.

“He’s got a lot of work to do, but sometimes when you see a player come in for the first time and the way in which the temperament, he’s obviously got technical ability and skill, you don’t play for Manchester United in the first place if you haven’t got that,” he continued.

“The biggest compliment I can pay him, and it hurts to say this, I hope people can take this in the right spirit…he looked like a Manchester City player,” the Overlap host confessed.

“I was watching him and thinking, ‘That’s a player that Pep Guardiola will want in his midfield.’ Thankfully, Manchester United have got him because he looks so composed,” he added.
