Liverpool set to compete with Manchester United over Donyell Malen transfer

Donyell Malen hasn’t particularly set the world ablaze in his illustrious career so far, but he’s an exciting player who has won comparisons with two Arsenal legends, Thierry Henry and Alexis Sanchez. The Dutchman played for two years in Arsenal’s youth team, where he developed into an all-round forward, although he never made it to the first team competitively.

Since his departure from Arsenal, Malen has been on a goal-scoring spree, particularly during his time at PSV. This impressive form earned him a move to Borussia Dortmund in 2021, and now, Liverpool and Manchester United are vying for his signature, setting the stage for an intense battle this summer.

Liverpool, Manchester United target BBV star Donyell Malen

Liverpool desperately needs reinforcements as they look to rebuild the incredible team they’ve maintained for the past few years. The club may struggle for a few seasons without Jurgen Klopp, so the new manager has to get it right. One of the players that the club officials think will bring a new dimension to the team is Donyell Malen.

Liverpool will lose Jurgen Klopp this season after the German manager decided to leave the club to take a sabbatical from football. Sadly, Klopp isn’t the only club legend they may lose. Mohamed Salah has also been mooted for a move to the Middle East, which will leave the Reds with one less attacker, making the acquisition of Malen a sensible one.

Malen may not be the most prolific goalscorer out there. However, he brings a different attacking style to the team, which will complement the rest of Liverpool’s attacking players, like fellow Dutchman Cody Gakpo, English youngster Harvey Elliot, Colombian superstar Luis Diaz, and the outstanding Darwin Nunez, who will mostly play as a lone striker starting from next season.

Donyell Malen has been in incredible form this season, registering 18 goal contributions in 33 appearances in all competitions. He has scored 13 goals and assisted a further five for Borussia Dortmund.

Now Liverpool is not the only English club that wants Donyell Malen. Manchester United could also put in a bid for the player, and with more leverage than Liverpool, it’s about to be an exciting transfer window for both clubs, but most especially the player.

Manchester United have the upper hand to sign Malen with Jadon Sancho deal

With Liverpool also in contention to sign Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund this summer, Manchester United look the likeliest to secure his services. The Red Devils are looking to part ways with Jadon Sancho, who is spending the rest of the season at Borussia Dortmund after falling out with manager Erik ten Hag over his work rate in training, leading to a temporary banishment from the first team.

Dortmund will most likely ask United to let Sancho spend one more season on loan at the club while they work on a deal to secure his services permanently. However, with United in line to sign Donyell Malen, Sancho could be used as a bargaining chip to secure the forward, who will be more than excited to join the Red Devils, especially if Erik ten Hag remains at the club beyond this season.

If United manage to sign Malen, he’ll be joining a team with one of the best-attacking units in England, playing with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Amad Diallo, and Rasmus Hojlund.

Whether the reports of this move are true remains unsure, but whatever happens in the summer, Erik ten Hag remaining at his job beyond next season will be a huge boost for this transfer.
