Manchester United’s $60 million-a-year Snapdragon sponsorship falls $15,000,000 short of Real Madrid’s world record deal

Manchester United have declined in the past few years as far as on-pitch success is concerned. The club last won the Premier League in Ferguson’s last season at the club in 2013 and have endured their neighbour’s dominance in English football since then. Despite the lack of trophies, United remain a huge club for commercial deals.

The fans have called for the Glazers to sell the club to people who care about football, as the American family have only shown interest in making money from the football club, prioritizing commercial deals over sporting success. The club recently announced a new sponsorship deal with Snapdragon worth $60 million per year, starting with the 24/25 season.

Sponsorships are a big part of club football. The deals usually include big companies providing these football clubs with money in exchange for having their name on the kits and other products such as posters, stadium adverts, and many more. Over the years, the Red Devils have had several kit sponsors, including AIG, AON, Vodafone, Chevrolet, and TeamViewer.

The club announced yesterday a new sponsorship deal with telecom giant, Qualcomm, to have one of its most iconic brands, Snapdragon, as United’s main sponsor starting next season. The deal is worth $60 million per year, but this is not up to what Real Madrid earns from having Fly Emirates as its sponsor each year. The Spanish giants reportedly earn $75 million a year from the deal, $15 million more than United’s new deal with Snapdragon.

Real Madrid’s deal with Fly Emirates runs until 2026. The club recently signed a four-year extension in 2022, and reports have suggested that the deal could be extended beyond 2026. Manchester United currently have the fourth most expensive sponsorship deal (with TeamViewer), behind Barcelona (Spotify), PSG (Qatar Airways), and Real Madrid (Fly Emirates).

What does Manchester United’s new Snapdragon shirt logo mean?

Snapdragon is a popular smartphone chipset owned by Qualcomm and will appear on the Manchester United shirt beginning next season as the club locks in a $60 million-a-year sponsorship deal with the company. United has featured in promotional material for Snapdragon before, but this will be the first time the logo will appear on the club jersey. The logo is one of the most iconic of any American brand. The simple S shape is accompanied by obvious dragon features, creating a powerful logo that is instantly recognizable.
