Mauricio Pochettino replacements: Jose Mourinho’s apprentice in Chelsea radar to replace underperforming manager

Mauricio Pochettino should be genuinely concerned about his future at Chelsea, as the club explores options to replace him. The former Tottenham boss was appointed at the beginning of the season at Stamford Bridge to enhance their young and new squad.

However, things did not go as planned, and the Blues have not met expectations. Despite significant investments in the squad, they are currently in mid-table in the Premier League. Now, the club is already considering other targets to replace him.

Mauricio Pochettino’s replacements reportedly identified by Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino has certainly put himself in a precarious position with the club’s future looking very bleak at the moment. Despite inheriting a super squad, it seems he is leading the team nowhere. The Chelsea owners are already contemplating replacing him. The board has reportedly identified two potential targets.

One is Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, who is also wanted by Liverpool for the next season. He apprenticed under former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in 2017 and idolizes the Portuguese manager, with the Sporting boss’s tactics resembling his own. Amorim has also secured league and cup trophies at Sporting and appears ready for the next significant step in his career.

Another candidate is Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, who is a big profile right now. He has transformed a very young and unknown squad at the club to big names who have got very big transfers. His tactics and philosophy make him very desirable and even Barcelona want him. He will be the second Brighton manager to join Chelsea recently if it happens, with Graham Potter the previous one.

Chelsea fans turning on Pochettino makes his task even more difficult

While the board is exploring other options, they are not currently considering sacking Mauricio Pochettino. However, the fans are vocal about wanting him gone, putting additional pressure on the Argentine manager. The squad is reportedly standing behind their manager and wants to continue fighting for him.

Many fans express frustration with some of his unconventional choices, such as the starting lineups in certain games. Pochettino’s peculiar substitutions and defensive approach during the Carabao Cup final also drew criticism from many Chelsea fans. The team’s current 11th position in the Premier League, considering the talented squad, adds further uncertainty to his situation.

Mauricio Pochettino needs to focus on turning around the results at Chelsea soon if he wants to keep his job. He will have that chance to prove against Newcastle United on Tuesday, and a win would be most favorable.
