‘Not unfair against me’: Karim Adeyemi owns up to on-field struggles amid relationship criticism with celebrity GF

Soccer players are often in the limelight due to their dating lives with celebrities. Sometimes, it works to their benefit, while at other times, it can go the other way, affecting their performance on the field. They are required to maintain a perfect balance between their personal and professional lives.

Similarly, Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi has recently faced criticism for his poor form on the pitch, with some blaming his love life for affecting the German international’s career. However, the player has stepped up to defend both his partner and himself from the scrutiny over his performance.

Adeyemi’s love life and performance struggles

Karim Adeyemi has been dating the Swiss-born Albanian music star Loredana; the pair first appeared publicly together last July. Since then, the player has witnessed a significant dip in his form and has consistently struggled with injuries, failing to reproduce his peak performance in black and yellow.

With a significant portion of criticism toward his on-pitch struggles directed at his love life with the popular musician, Adeyemi has rubbished the speculation, stating that it is unfair to point fingers at his partner Loredana for something he is solely responsible for.

The 22-year-old attacker on Dortmund’s YouTube said, “I knew what I was getting myself into—that she was a person in the public eye, but I found it crazy that people react like that after a bad game. Not unfair against me because I didn’t play well. It’s unfair to my girlfriend.”

He added, “It has nothing to do with how I play and perform on the pitch. Sometimes I find it strange how some people take the liberty of judging people they don’t know.”

Additionally, the arrival of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United on a loan spell has further affected his place in the team. Sancho, who has been starting matches for Dortmund, has limited the opportunities for the 22-year-old. Currently sidelined due to injury, Adeyemi has been restricted to just three league starts this season.

Karim Adeyemi acknowledges on-field issues

Karim Adeyemi made a move to Borussia Dortmund from fellow Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig in July 2020 for a €38 million fee and signed a long-term deal until 2027. The Under-21 German international has acknowledged his run of disappointing performances at Signal Iduna Park this season. He said, “It wasn’t a good first half of the season. I’m not happy with myself.”

In his debut season, the winger had a promising campaign at the club, making 32 appearances and contributing 9 goals and 6 assists across all competitions. In contrast, this term has been a letdown for the German talent. With 11 appearances, he is yet to score league goals this season.
