Randy Orton wants CM Punk to do ‘great’ after ex-AEW star returns to WWE

On November 26, 2023 WWE Universe celebrated the two most anticipated return of all time at the WWE at Survivor Series: WarGames in Chicago. Randy Orton, who was out of action for 18 months due to a back injury, joined team Cody Rhodes against The Judgement Day.

At the end of the show, CM Punk also returned to WWE after 10 years. Punk left WWE in 2014 and spent years away from wrestling before joining AEW in 2021. Recently, for the first time since his return, Orton has expressed his feelings about Punk and shared his reactions about Punk’s return.

Randy Orton talks on CM Punk’s return

In a recent interview on WWE’s The Bump, Orton revealed his true feelings about Punk’s return and how he has matured since his last run with WWE. Orton said, “Dude, it was so cool. I was so nervous, and funny little side story to that day. But after all was said and done, I came out, got a great reaction. Punk came out, got a great reaction. It was really just a really fun night for the fans. They got Randy Orton back, and they were very happy about that. They weren’t even thinking about Punk. Then here comes Punk.”

Orton said that his return to WWE was spreading among the fans for more than 2 months and it was not really a surprise to fans. Both superstars are set to compete in the Royal Rumble 2024. Orton will be part of a fatal four-way match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, and LA Knight. Punk will make his televised wrestling return after 10 years in the 30-man Royal Rumble match.

After his return to WWE, Randy Orton has not given up on his ambition to become the WWE Champion again. Orton immediately went against the Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns and challenged him for the WWE Undisputed Championship and earned his title shot at the Royal Rumble.

Randy Orton seeks another run as WWE champ

During the interview Orton said that he hopes to win the WWE Championship one or two more times before he hangs up his boots. On the same interview, Orton also mentioned his favourite dream match in WWE.

He said, “A dream match for me would be to somehow find myself in a situation where I’m fighting Cena at WrestleMania for the title. I don’t know how you get there, I’m not saying it’s gonna happen. But I have never wrestled John at WrestleMania in a singles match.”

The rivalry between John Cena and Randy Orton is one of the most iconic, and they have faced each other in more than 50 matches, yet they have never squared off in WrestleMania. In 2013, there was a possibility for a WrestleMania match, but WWE concluded their feud at TLC, where Orton won both titles, becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

With 10 WWE Championship wins and 4 World Heavyweight Championship victories, Orton boasts an impressive 14-time World Champion record in WWE. Additionally, he has clinched the Intercontinental Championship, the United States Championship, and earned the title of a two-time Royal Rumble winner. If WWE decides to make Orton a champion again, he will surpass the 16-time title reign record held by both John Cena and Ric Flair.
