Real Madrid is on the lookout for a promising forward to bolster their ranks for the future, since the signing of their long-term target, PSG star Kylian Mbappé, remains subject to complications. They plan to rely on ace Jude Bellingham to convince Erling Haaland to join them this summer.
Given the fact that securing either of the forwards will be a huge task at the end of the season, the La Liga giants are now exploring other options, with Manchester United’s new arrival, Rasmus Hojlund, being the latest name to emerge on the Los Blancos wishlist.
Rasmus Hojlund under Real Madrid radar
Real Madrid have rigorously pursued Kylian Mbappé in previous seasons, with speculation of his potential move to the Spanish capital once again intensifying as the final few months of his contract with PSG tick down to the season’s end. However, negotiations are still underway.
Along with their interest in the Frenchmen, Real Madrid are also keen on Manchester City talisman Erling Haaland, despite his prolonged contract and high salary with the English champions. Now, they have identified another Scandinavian talent, Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United, as a backup option for the summer.
According to the Defensa Central report, Real have tasked their chief scout, Juni Calafat, with monitoring the situation of the 21-year-old striker at Old Trafford.
Fascinatingly, Calafat has been scouting the Danish international since his time playing in Italy with Serie A side Atalanta, before he signed for Manchester United last summer.
Hojlund’s performance this season so far
Initially struggling to adapt to the English Premier League, Rasmus Hojlund grappled with a goal drought before eventually breaking through by scoring his first league goal to help Manchester United defeat Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
Since then, the 21-year-old has rediscovered his goal-scoring form, netting 5 goals in his last five outings. Overall, he has bagged 11 goals and provided 2 assists in a total of 29 appearances across all competitions.
Recently, the forward also matched the club legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s record, thanks to his sensational performances.
His contributions also include an impressive Champions League campaign, where he scored 5 goals in 6 European appearances this season. Despite Manchester United’s failure to advance to the next round of the Champions League due to a poor team campaign, Hojlund managed to stand out.
