Richard Keys claims Jose Mourinho exploited Paul Pogba to purposely be fired from Man United

Jose Mourinho is without a doubt one of the greatest managers in football history. The only club the Portuguese tactical genius failed to win a trophy as a head coach was Tottenham Hotspur after he was sacked a week into a major final he led the club to, which was a sad thing to see in football.

Mourinho won trophies at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and most recently, Roma. He was also shown the door at four of those clubs, with famous commentator Richard Keys revealing a shocking detail about Jose Mourinho’s sacking at Manchester United just a few months after leading them to a second-place finish.

Richard Keys explains why Jose Mourinho purposely got sacked by Man Utd

Jose Mourinho joined Manchester United to much fanfare. Although he was recently axed at Chelsea after a run of poor form just one season after leading them to another title-winning season, his arrival at Manchester United rocked the club, with many believing he was the right man needed to lead the club back to glory after the fans had gotten bored of Louis van Gaal’s tactics.

Mourinho’s fourth signing at the club was Paul Pogba, with United breaking the British record transfer fee to bring their former prodigy back to the club. It was an exciting time for everyone associated with Manchester United as they thrashed Leicester City to lift the FA Community Shield.

Mourinho ended that season with two more trophies, the EFL Cup and the Europa League, with Paul Pogba playing an important role in both triumphs. However, Mourinho’s relationship with Pogba hit rock bottom the following season, with blogger and commentator Richard Keys claiming it was a deliberate action by Mourinho to get himself sacked at United.

“His latest sacking in Rome followed the usual pattern – row, rant, then retreat with the money,” Keys said in his blog. “He once told me he knew he’d be sacked at United for leaving Pogba out for three consecutive games at a time when the Frenchman’s stock was at its highest. All planned, and it worked perfectly. He wanted the sack, he got it,” Keys added.

What’s next for Jose Mourinho after Roma exit?

Since being sacked by United, Jose Mourinho has been sacked by two more clubs, Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma, although he led the latter to their first European glory.

Roma even got into the 2023 Europa League final, where they were beaten by Sevilla, with Mourinho endearing himself with the fans in the process. Despite all the love from the supporters, Jose Mourinho couldn’t escape the sack after a poor run of form. The two-time Champions League winner is now without a job.

The legendary Portuguese manager has been linked with several jobs, including the Brazil national team and a gig in the Saudi Pro League, the latter of which he reportedly turned down.

Mourinho is waiting for another big club to come knocking, and Barcelona may be a possible destination, although the Spanish giants are unlikely to hire him due to his ties with Real Madrid.
