Chiefs Super Bowl-winning TE Travis Kelce contemplates retiring from NFL following multiple setbacks due to injury

The Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce has been the critical component of Patrick Mahomes’ offense since the duo started a milestone run like the Tom Brady-Rob Gronkowski duo. With his monumental support, Kelce assisted the Chiefs in regaining their ascendancy that they lacked in the absence of him in Week 1.

There are no accolades left for the tight end-quarterback pair to touch, serving as an inspiration for Kelce to call his career off and leaving more responsibilities on Mahomes.

Travis Kelce talks on retirement from the NFL

The Wall Street Journal’s J.R. Moehringer reported that the Chiefs tight end is considering a retirement decision and behind that he cited the intensity of “discomfort” and “pain” he has to undergo during a season.

“That’s the only thing I’ve never really been open about, the discomfort. The pain.”

Since the start of the season, Travis Kelce has been a victim of injuries several times. After skipping the season-opening game for a knee injury, the 34-year-old fell prey to a low ankle sprain during their Week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Fortunately, it was not serious enough that he proved in his return plays.

During his take, Travis mentioned his 10 surgeries that are instigating him to take the necessary steps to rest himself from hurting anymore.

“The lingering injuries… the 10 surgeries I’ve had that I still feel every single surgery to this day.”

The Chiefs fan should not worry much as it mustn’t be a serious thought for the two-time Super Bowl winner. Sportskeeda reported that the football lover player is not in serious thought of leaving the NFL field early.

Travis Kelce’s NFL career recap

The start of Travis Kelce in Kansas City was easily forgettable. After being the first of two third-round picks in the 2013 NFL Draft, the star player had to slip most of his rookie season due to injuries.

The player harboring a great wish to clinch the Lombardi Trophy did not take much time to turn into a formidable troop for the Chiefs. Entering his 11th season in the league, he holds the tape for most receptions by any NFL tight end in their first 10 seasons with 814 catches.

A few tight ends in the league could show their consistency like Travis whose nine consecutive seasons with 50+ receptions is tied for the top spot with WR Mike Evans for the most consecutive seasons among all active pass catchers in the league.

In this run, he even etched his name beside PFHOF WR Torry Holt, being the fastest tight end in NFL history to reach the 800-reception plateau. By helping the Chiefs to claim their second Super Bowl under the Kelce-Mahomes dynasty, the tight end set the milestone as the most receptions by any Chiefs tight end in a single season with 110 catches.

Though he has expressed his trust in Mahomes to end up like Brady, it must be said that he himself already succeeded resembling Gronkowski.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs embraced their third loss while encountering the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11. The match was highlighted enough as the first official meetup of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s family

The update on the meetup is yet to be known, however, with the loss the Chiefs dropped to 7-3.
