Conor McGregor celebrates after ‘Road House’ sets new Amazon Prime record with projected ‘$750 million’ box office earning

Conor McGregor is arguably the sport’s biggest superstar and he recently debuted in Hollywood with the remake of the Road House movie and became the highest-paid Hollywood debutant. Before McGregor, it was Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson who held the record, as he was paid $5.5 million for his role in The Scorpion King.

Now, the former two-division UFC champion is celebrating yet another record, two weeks after the release of Roadhouse on Prime Video. After all, McGregor has many records to his name and the latest one is just an addition.

Conor McGregor celebrate debut movie Road House’s success

Amazon MGM Studios released Road House on Prime Video on March 21 and received mixed response from critics. However, the performance of Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor, the respective protagonists and antagonists of the movie, particularly their action sequence, received praise.

Now, less than two weeks after the release of the movie, McGregor tweeted, “Congrats to @amazonstudios and @mgmstudios on their @roadhousemovie becoming their most-watched movie of all time! 50 million viewers over two weekends,” citing that when equating the viewership to box office collection, it would be a staggering $750 million.

McGregor congratulated the team and showed gratitude as well. Doug Liman, the director of the movie wanted the film to be released in theatres instead of OTT. However, the production company was dead set on having an OTT release.

The release of the movie was not without controversy. The screenwriter of the original movie filed a lawsuit against Amazon Studios for copyright infringement and artificial intelligence use but his lawyers failed to get an injunction.

Conor McGregor not excited to act again in Hollywood

Conor McGregor’s performance as Knox, the primary antagonist, in Road House, was well appreciated by fans and fighters alike per the Men’s Journal. For many, it felt that McGregor played himself in the movie.

However, the Irishman does not seem too keen on having to do another movie. “I don’t actually fancy it, that’s the thing. I’m not really into it, to be honest. It’s a bit weird to me,” said McGregor in his interview with Adam Catterall for TNT Sports.

McGregor’s prime objective now is to return to the octagon after what would be a three-year absence after the unfortunate leg break at UFC 264. Cody Durden, a UFC flyweight, leaked that McGregor will headline UFC 303 against ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler at the T-Mobile Arena.

McGregor had revealed on New Year’s Eve that he would be fighting Chandler at middleweight. Moreover, he recently expressed interest in headlining UFC 306 at the Las Vegas Sphere against Nate Diaz in a trilogy fight.
