Premier League giants Manchester United have shown intent by appointing one of the most renowned executives, Omar Berrada, as their new club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from town rivals Manchester City. According to The Sun, Manchester United is considering activating the one-year contract extension clause on McTominay’s current deal that runs out next summer in 2025. He has been one of the bright points of the club’s dismal season, showcasing an enhanced game as a goal-scoring central midfielder at Old Trafford.
Scott McTominay has emerged as an essential part of Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag’s plans, having won the trust of the Dutchman. He has been given a more advanced role this season in the starting eleven and certainly gained the club’s management’s approval to extend his stay.
Earlier, the 27-year-old midfielder was on the transfer radar of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and also attracted interest from fellow Premier League club West Ham United due to uncertainty over his role at the club. The Scottish international is a product of the club’s youth academy and has been part of the club’s hierarchy since 2002 when he joined the youth set-up. Scott McTominay worked his way through the ranks and made his debut for the first team at the age of 20 under Louis van Gaal in the 2016/2017 season.
Overall, he has made 233 appearances for the Red Devils since making his debut and has played under six different head coaches over the seasons in his entire spell at Old Trafford. However, this season McTominay has secured his permanent spot.
Subsequently, the club is eager to trigger his one-year extension from the long-term deal he signed in 2020, ensuring his stay at the club until 2025. Nevertheless, fans have expressed discontent over the reports of extending his tenure at the club, even though the new owners have expressed interest in retaining the British player.
