What is USA Boxing’s trans inclusion policy? UFC star Colby Covington claims its ‘disgusting’

Colby Covington, known for his controversial and outspoken remarks, recently commented on USA Boxing’s trans inclusion policy, a controversial decision by the national governing body for Olympic-style boxing in the USA.

The former UFC interim welterweight champion’s recent fight was against Leon Edwards for the undisputed welterweight title. Colby, who challenged for the undisputed title twice when Kamaru Usman was the champion, failed yet again as he lost via clear unanimous decision.

What is USA Boxing’s trans inclusion policy? Details explained

USA boxing, overseen by the United States Olympic Committee, recently introduced a trans inclusion policy. Through this policy, trans women and trans men can compete in the women’s and men’s categories respectively, if they meet the criteria set by USA Boxing.

The main criteria that USA boxing enforces are gender reassignment surgery, hormone therapy, and hormone testing. It needs to be noted that trans athletes can compete only four years after they fully transitioned. Moreover, transmen are required to keep their testosterone levels above 10 nanomoles per liter and transwomen are required to keep their testosterone levels below 4 nanomoles per liter.

The policy received severe backlash from the boxing community as renowned female boxers like Ebanie Bridges, Amanda Serrano, and Claress Shields expressed concerns about transwomen competing against biological women inside the ring. Recently, Fallon Fox, a transwoman MMA fighter fought a biological woman inside the cage, causing devastating injuries for the biological woman.

Colby Covington brutally slams USA Boxing’s trans inclusion policy

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington became a vocal critique of USA boxing’s trans inclusion policy, particularly due to the health risk it poses for biological women inside the ring. ‘Chaos’ made his statement on Fox News’ ‘Tomi Lahren is Fearless’ show. The former interim champion thinks that the move by USA Boxing is nothing more than a ‘publicity stunt’.

Covington remarked that USA Boxing is losing its popularity with the mainstream public and the move is designed to make it become mainstream again. The NCAA Division I collegiate wrestler strongly disapproved of the decision citing ethical and moral considerations. Moreover, he even urged the public to reject the policy.

Covington also remarked there is a need for the reversal of the policy that he felt was dangerous for cisgender women. The sentiment of Covington was shared by others in the combat sports community even though many do not align with the character of the infamous Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington as he has made several offensive remarks in the past.

Covington was recently in hot waters due to the offensive remarks he made about Leon Edwards’ deceased father during the pre-fight press conference of UFC 296. His remarks were deemed too insensitive by Sean Strickland, the UFC middleweight champion, and also by UFC CEO Dana White.
