Conor McGregor reportedly “seals the deal” for potential bout vs Michael Chandler at UFC 300

Conor McGregor, the UFC’s biggest superstar, has not fought since his unfortunate leg break at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier. Even though he has not fought in the UFC, he coached opposite Michael Chandler in the 31st season of the Ultimate Fighter reality series.

On New Year’s Eve of 2024, McGregor announced that he would be fighting Michael Chandler at middleweight on June 29, 2024, during the International Fight Week PPV. However, both McGregor and Chandler have flirted to fight even before that.

Conor McGregor drops hint at UFC 300 bout

The UFC recently revealed the fight card for UFC 300 with only the main event of the PPV to be announced. It did not take much longer for ‘The Notorious’ to make headlines with a cryptic tweet. “McGregor on 300 seals the deal,” tweeted the Irishman which sent the MMA community into a frenzy.

Fight fans are predicting that McGregor could headline UFC 300 against ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler, considering the absence of viable opponents in the UFC. Dustin Poirier is set to face Benoit Saint-Denis in the co-main event at UFC 299 in a five-round bout, ruling out his participation in UFC 300.

Another option is Justin Gaethje but Gaethje is fighting at UFC 300, defending his BMF title against Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway. McGregor had earlier hinted at a BMF Title fight with Gaethje after ‘The Highlight’ knocked out Dustin Poirier at UFC 291.

Nate Diaz is another option, with whom McGregor holds a 1-1 record in the UFC. However, the Stockton native is currently not affiliated with the UFC. Diaz has ventured into the boxing ring, having fought Jake Paul, and there are rumors circulating that he might box former BMF champion Jorge Masvidal next.

Michael Chandler hints fighting at UFC 300

Michael Chandler last fought at UFC 281 where he suffered a third-round rear naked choke submission loss to Dustin Poirier. Chandler did not take much time to respond after Conor McGregor flirted with his comeback at UFC 300.

Chandler reposted the official UFC post with the caption, “T B D …” With both Chandler and McGregor flirting with the idea of fighting at UFC 300, fight fans are on the edge of their seats. If the two will fight at the PPV, it will be the most exciting fight card ever in the UFC.

Chandler has only fought five times in the UFC after his release from Bellator MMA and has been a fan favorite ever since. All of his five fights were exciting as evidenced by his 4 post-fight bonuses with his fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 268 winning the 2021 Fight of the Year honours.

Chandler fought for the vacant lightweight title against Charles Oliveira in his second UFC bout. Oliveira, another of his former opponents, is set to fight Arman Tsarukyan in a lightweight number-one contender bout at UFC 300.
