Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. get written off by fans in playoff race following Doc Rivers links

The Milwaukee Bucks are considered to be one of the strongest teams in the league and yesterday they shocked the basketball community by firing their HC Adrian Griffin, in search of a coach who possesses the qualities required to lead the team to glory.

Veteran coach Doc Rivers emerged as the leading contender to take up the coaching job with the team amongst other candidates that stood a chance but the Bucks had their target set on the leadership of the legendary coach. However, the Bucks’ fans don’t seem to be happy with the team’s potential choice of Doc Rivers.

Doc Rivers reportedly set for Bucks HC role

Doc Rivers is no newcomer to the NBA world. With over 14 years of experience as a player and almost 25 years of experience as an NBA coach, Rivers is one of the most reputed and refined coaches in the basketball world.

Following his unsuccessful stint with the 76ers, Rivers decided to take a break from the pressure of coaching to become an analyst for ESPN, where he displayed his basketball knowledge, and was a prized choice by many fans around the league.

Even in his time as an analyst, Rivers did not stay away from coaching. According to Shams Charania, the coach served as an informal consultant to Adrian Griffin and the Milwaukee Bucks, which makes him an even more suitable contender for the job.

After the announcement of the dismissal of Griffin from the team, it was out for debate regarding who would lead the team next, and without a doubt Doc Rivers emerged as the frontrunner for the position of Head Coach, considering his history of working with star-studded teams.

Earlier today, senior NBA insider, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the one-time NBA coach of the year is in the process of finalizing a deal to become the next coach of the Milwaukee Bucks. If the deal happens, Doc Rivers is set to become the third coach the team has had in less than a year.

Reporting the technicalities, Wojnarowski said, “Doc Rivers is finalizing an agreement to become the next coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, sources tell ESPN. The Bucks are getting the coach they targeted over the past 24 hours.”

Following the potential acquisition of Doc Rivers as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, fans of the team have started to lose hope in the team’s chances to lift the coveted NBA trophy this season, an occurrence that previously happened under Mike Budenholzer.

The lack of hope and cause for concern is well understood with one look at the coach’s track record in the NBA Playoffs. While he has won one championship with the Celtics, that has been his only notably successful venture in his career. The even more concerning statistic is the coach’s history in do-or-die games.

Rivers has lost three series while leading 3-1, from the 13 instances of a loss of such figures. He is also 6-10 in-game 7s, the most losses by a coach. In games that the team could’ve clinched the playoffs, Doc Rivers has an abysmal 17-33 record which is once again, the most losses in the league’s history.

All of these combined do not paint a good look for the potential acquisition of Doc Rivers and fans were quick to react to Wojnarowski’s update regarding the situation. Multiple fans ruled out the chances of the Bucks doing well in the playoffs this season. A fan said, “Bucks downfall starts now”

Other users reacted by mocking the coach’s history of blown playoff leads. An user wrote, “Who we think they blowing a 2-1 series lead too?”

Another NBA enthusiast completely ruled out the Bucks’ season, saying, “SEASON OVER.”

There is not much optimism from the people of Milwaukee in accepting Doc Rivers as their potential coach and there is no doubt that the coach has a monumental task set ahead of him to lead the team and restore it to it’s former glory.

What are your thoughts on the Bucks hiring Doc Rivers? Do you think he is a good fit for the team? We are eager to know your thoughts and opinions, so feel free to comment below.
