Hours after Mike Williams was pronounced dead, unexpected reports emerged claiming ex-NFL player is still alive

Mike Williams started his NFL journey after getting selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the 101st overall pick in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He broke out the same year by catching 11 touchdowns as a rookie star.

However, Mike fell short of expectations and decided to hang up his cleats in 2016 before spending short stints with the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. After being out of the limelight for several years, the ex-NFL star recently hit the headlines following his death news, albeit it was later proved to be a false rumor.

Update on Mike Williams’ health

Buffalo Bills beat reporter Jon Scott first spread the news of Williams’ death by making a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. However, he later rectified his mistake by retweeting his former tweet with a comment that the veteran was still alive.

“Mike Williams is in Florida hospital fighting his for life, according to agent Hadley Engelhard, after suffering injuries during an accident while working at a construction site. Tuesday night, I incorrectly reported his passing after speaking w/multiple people close to Williams.”

The veteran’s wife Tierney Lyle shared an update about his husband’s condition saying he wasn’t able to move his body when they paid him a visit in the hospital.

“He was asleep when we went in there and he woke up when he heard our voices and his daughter’s voice. He looked around, and he blinked and he was crying but he can’t move, she concluded, stating the likely outcome will be to take Williams off of life support.”

A close friend of the footballer said he responded shortly after surgery, albeit the doctors placed him in a medically induced coma a few days ago. The veteran scored 26 touchdowns along with 3,089 receiving yards throughout his career before putting an end to his short stint in the NFL.

How did Mike Williams suffer a life-threatening injury?

Before the death of Mike Williams started circulating on social media, his father Wendell Muhammad set up a GoFundMe page (organized by Latrina Moore) to seek help for his son.

“I come in peace and prayer and I’m seeking support to help me to help my first born son. I am the father of Mike Williams, former NFL player. My son played in the NFL from 2010 to 2014 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and his hometown team, the Buffalo Bills. Mike Williams recently had a major accident at work.”

The 36-year-old NFL veteran started his new job doing electrical work at a construction site about a couple of months ago in the Tampa area. On the fundraising page, his father revealed the retired NFL star sustained a serious injury after getting hit by a steel beam that swelled his brain and spinal cord, making him completely paralyzed.

“A steal beam fell on his head causing a massive head injury. As a result of this accident, there was swelling on his brain and swelling on his spinal cord that was ruptured. These injuries resulted in complete paralysis in his right arm as well as his lower body from the waist down.”

We are expecting a speedy recovery for Williams. Stay tuned with Sportsknot for the latest update on his health conditions.
