Luka Doncic reflects back on incident with Suns fan, repents he “shouldn’t have done that”

A day before, Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic was caught in chaos following the Mavericks blowout loss to the Phoenix Suns. The superstar’s actions were brought to light after he requested arena security remove a specific fan who was constantly hurling insults at the player throughout the course of the game.

The Serbian doubled down on his actions and said that the fan’s antics warranted his ejection and that it was the right thing to do to put the fan in his place. However, now the player feels like he’s on the wrong after some retrospection.

Luka Doncic regrets his wrongdoing

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic accepted his mistake and suggested maybe he went too far in getting a Phoenix Suns’ fan ejected out of the latest match between the two teams.

The incident occurred when a Phoenix Suns fan was constantly dishing jibes at Luka’s way, commenting on the player’s fitness levels in a game that saw the Mavericks get blown out by the scorching Suns. Luka, who was having an awful three-point night, eventually decided to stand up to the fan’s insults and asked the arena security to remove the player from the arena.

When asked about the occurrence in the post-game interview, the usually very amicable Luka emphasized his approach and insinuated that the fan crossed all sorts of limits. Addressing the issue, Luka said, “They paid for tickets, but I had enough. It’s a little bit of frustration.”

Now, after reflecting on the incident, it seems like Luka Doncic has changed his perspective on the incident. Following the announcement of the 2024 NBA All-Star starter’s list, in which Luka was selected, the player was interviewed by NBA on TNT hosts Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith.

As host Ernie Johnson asked the player about the incident, Luka admitted his mistake and suggested that his frustrations built up due to his twisted ankle and the losing stages of the game, which eventually reached their breaking point, which was a very vocal fan.

Answering Johnson, Luka smiled and responded, “I was really frustrated, we were losing, I twisted my ankle in the first half, it was just a lot of emotions. When I’m wrong, I admit it. I probably shouldn’t have done that.”

Kevin Durant gives his two cents about Luka Doncic incident

Following the incident that occurred between Luka Doncic and a Suns fan, one of basketball’s legends, Kevin Durant expressed his two cents on the altercation between the two individuals.

The Phoenix Suns were absolutely crushing the Mavericks with a massive third-quarter burst from Devin Booker, who outscored the Mavericks 22-20. Eventually, as the game started to slip away, the Phoenix fan’s antics against Luka Doncic seemed to get over the top, which caused Doncic to request the fan’s ejection.

Suns star Kevin Durant seemed to understand the seriousness of the situation and said that if the game had to be stopped, then there is probably more than meets the eye with regard to the situation. Durant said, “If somebody talk some shit to me, I’ll talk it back and we’ll move on. That’s usually how it should go. Once it gets overboard, little disrespectful to the point you got to stop the game, that’s different.”

Interestingly, both players were selected to the Western Conference All-Star team and will starting against the Eastern Conference team in the 2024 NBA All-Star game which will be taking place in Indianapolis next month.
