D’Angelo Russell is having the form of his life while there is also a lot of speculation on Russell’s future with the Lakers, considering their attempt to land Dejounte Murray. Meanwhile, D’Lo’s history has caught up with him, as former teammate Nick Young took shots at the player on Instagram.
However, the rift between the two stars has a history that many are unaware of, tracing back to an incident from the duo’s time as Lakers teammates.
What happened between Nick Young and D’Angelo Russell?
The feud between Nick Young and D’Angelo began in 2013 when both players were part of the Lakers team. Tensions escalated when Russell recorded Young discussing other women while he was engaged to pop star Iggy Azalea, causing problems in the Lakers’ locker room. Ever since the incident, Young has emphasized on how he would like to come face-to-face with Russell.
In the most recent incident of the duo’s feud, Nick Young aimed derogatory remarks at D’Angelo Russell’s character, using offensive language in the comments on a post related to Russell. After the Lakers’ decisive victory against the Portland Trailblazers, where D’Lo scored a game-high 34 points, the star appeared visibly upset and in tears after the game, alongside a few other Lakers players. This came with rumors which suggested that it meant that Lakers were planning on trading Russell away from the team.
Soon after, the Lakers star squashed all news of him crying by claiming to be a person with a very aggressive demeanor. Taking to Instagram, Russell said, “I’m f—-g gangster. The f–k am I crying about?”
Seeing his statements, Nick Young was provoked and instantly hit back by telling D’Lo that the Lakers star was not what he claimed to be. Young wrote, “N—a youuuu a b—h.”
Although Russell has not responded to Nick Young’s comments yet, it will be interesting to see how the Lakers star addresses Young’s remarks. Given that Nick Young’s last appearance in the league was with the Denver Nuggets in 2019, it’s evident that any potential resolution to their feud won’t take place on the basketball court.
Where does Nick Young play now?
Popularly known as Swaggy P on the social media platforms, Nick Young was drafted in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards. Establishing himself as a solid shooting option, he played for various teams in the league, including the 76ers, Lakers, and the Golden State Warriors, where he ultimately became an NBA champion in 2018.
In 2019, Young played his last NBA season with the Denver Nuggets. Over the course of his career, Young maintained a commendable average of 11.4 points per game, 1 assist, and 2 rebounds, contributing significantly to the success of the teams he played for. Young’s basketball journey did not stop with the NBA as he took his talents overseas, signing a deal with the Macau Black Bears, a Macanese team, in October last year.
Without a doubt, Young’s best season came in a Lakers uniform when he averaged 17.9 points per game for the Purple and Gold while shooting 38.6 percent from the field.
