Canelo Alvarez in disagreement with PBC as potential ‘$35 million’ bout hangs in balance

Canelo Alvarez’s next fight is still under a lot of suspense. The deal with PBC over the past few months hasn’t been able to fulfill the demands of the WBA champion, leading to another disagreement. Alvarez’s next potential bout is hanging, and who will be the next opponent hasn’t been finalized.

Alvarez’s last fight was against Jermell Charlo last year, in September 2023. Since then, it’s been almost 6 months since Canelo hasn’t fought anyone. Lately, even after signing a $100 million deal with PBC, the promotion was not able to convince the Mexican superstar for the next fight.

Canelo Alvarez and PBC are unable to lock up his next opponent.

Premier Boxing Champions hasn’t been able to lock the $35 million deal with Canelo Alvarez, as they think their choice of fighter will make a better pay-per-views sale. Canelo wants Jermall Charlo for the next fight, but PBC wants it to be Jaime Munguía as the WBA champion’s next opponent. Though Jermall already gave his answer for the rumored purchase a few days ago, Alvarez seems to be stubborn about his choice.

For the May 5th date, Canelo Alvarez’s next title defense is booked, but finalizing the next opponent dilemma is troubling not just Alvarez but also PBC. Canelo wants $35 million to fight Jermall Charlo.

However, PBC is not ready to give him that amount for fighting Jermall, as they don’t see much selling potential. So the current scenario for Alvarez’s next title defense is that PBC wants 27-year-old Munguia to face the WBA champion.

Canelo is only interested in fighting American fighters, which also led Terence Crawford to fail to finalize the bout against the WBA champion. On the other hand, Jermall is on holidays, so he is not available to fight anyone at least in May. But Canelo still believes if PBC is ready, then Jermall will show up for the potential fight.

Will Canelo Alvarez ever fight David Benavidez?

According to the fans, David Benavidez is the best option to challenge Canelo Alvarez for the belt. David has had 28 fights in boxing, and he won all 28 fights, of which 24 came from knockouts.

Recently, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman explained how fans are expecting the potential match-up between David Benavidez and Canelo Alvarez. Sulaiman explained, “Benavidez, apparently he is going to do a title defense of his interim title, and Canelo will make a title defense of his title, but that fight is one everybody wants to see. It’s boxing at the highest level; it’s a fight that’s building to be an unbelievably huge event, and I’m confident it will happen.”

But Canelo Alvarez is constantly ducking the bout against Benavidez. David called out Canelo after beating Demetrius Andrade on November 25, 2023. But Alvarez hasn’t been showing interest in the call-out. So it is clear fans might not see David fighting against Alvarez in the ring any time soon.

What do you think PBC will take a complete U-turn on their choice of fighter and agree to what Canelo Alvarez is demanding?
