Former WWE couple Miro and CJ Perry reportedly end 7-year marriage life

It has been recently announced that AEW stars CJ Perry and Miro have ended their more than seven-year marriage. Unlike the scripted wrestling storylines, this separation is real, and both parties have confirmed it. The couple’s relationship extended from their time in WWE to their current roles in AEW.

The news of their split was confirmed by CJ Perry, better known as Lana in WWE, through TMZ. She expressed that they have decided to separate in a friendly manner and continue as friends while keeping open the possibility of collaborating again onscreen in the future.

Miro and CJ Perry reportedly split

AEW wrestler CJ Perry, formerly known as Lana in WWE, recently announced that she and her husband, Miro, formerly known as Rusev in WWE, have decided to end their seven-year marriage.

The couple started dating while working together in WWE NXT, and their engagement in 2015 was significant due to an ongoing storyline that portrayed them going through a breakup, which also involved Dolph Ziggler and Summer Rae. However, they officially tied the knot only a year later, in 2016.

In September’s AEW All Out event, CJ Perry officially joined AEW. She was involved in a storyline that saw her pitted against her husband, Miro, on television. However, they were later reunited at AEW Worlds End when Perry betrayed Andrade El Idolo to help Miro secure a victory. Since then, both Perry and Miro have been absent from TV appearances.

As per TMZ Sports, it has been officially announced that CJ Perry and Miro have separated. However, despite the end of their marriage, both parties have expressed their commitment to maintaining a friendly connection and continuing to work together even after the separation.

“Miro and I have made the difficult decision to separate after many wonderful years together, and have decided to move on as friends, and hopefully onscreen characters somewhere down the road.”

TMZ has clarified that the separation between CJ Perry and Rusev was not due to any conflicts, fights, or infidelity. The couple has acknowledged that, over the years, they gradually drifted apart.

Miro and CJ Perry’s WWE run as Rusev and Lana

It was reported by TMZ on Monday that CJ Perry and Miro have ended their seven-year marriage, which came as a shocking revelation. The couple has been associated with each other since their WWE days when they were part of the NXT brand. They continued to work together even after moving to AEW. Their on-screen chemistry was a delight to watch, and they had a unique bond.

Rusev started his career in NXT as a singles wrestler. He had previously worked with FCW and had nearly ended his career early due to a broken neck. Rusev teamed up with Lana, whose real name is CJ Perry, and made her his social ambassador or valet. The pair achieved moderate success in NXT before both of them were called up to the WWE main roster. They made their debut during the 2014 WWE Royal Rumble.

Both wrestlers started playing the role of villains, but it turned out to be a hit. They acted as if they were Russian heroes and criticized the United States of America. They even expressed their support for the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. However, this angle was too controversial and had to be resolved privately, as it generated too much controversy. As a result, their act was toned down.

In November 2014, Rusev won the WWE United States Championship from Sheamus on an episode of Monday Night Raw. He successfully defended his title for 131 days before losing it to John Cena at WrestleMania 31 due to a miscommunication from Lana.

Rusev’s career took a turn for the worse as he experienced more losses than wins, which ultimately led to him breaking his ankle. During this time, Rusev and Lana ended their relationship due to the frustrations they faced, with Rusev blaming Lana for his career decline. Lana moved on with Dolph Ziggler, while Rusev teamed up with Summer Rae.

In the WWE storyline, Lana and Rusev’s engagement was announced in October 2016. However, Summer Rae proposed to Rusev in the storyline, but he declined the proposal until he won another championship title. After the real-life news of Lana and Rusev’s engagement, Summer Rae broke up with him. Lana returned to WWE a month later from hiatus and reunited on-screen with Rusev.

In 2018, a new storyline was introduced for the wrestler Rusev called “Rusev Day.” This was intended to help improve his reputation and career, which had suffered in the past. As part of this new storyline, Rusev and Lana were portrayed as a babyface couple for the first time. However, their relationship became more complicated when rumors spread that Lana was having an affair with Aiden English. These rumors were later proven to be false, but the incident created tension between the characters.

In 2020, Rusev made a comeback to WWE after taking a break from the company. As per the storyline, Lana started a relationship with Bobby Lashley without Rusev’s knowledge. She accused Rusev of being a manipulative and revengeful sex addict. Liv Morgan also got involved in the narrative as a common friend of the trio. However, Liv Morgan decided to support Rusev in the matter.

The storyline involving Rusev and Lana continued until February 2020. Due to budget constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, WWE decided to release Rusev from his contract. Lana, on the other hand, remained with the company for another year until she was also released in June 2021.

In this hypothetical scenario, Rusev signs a contract with AEW and adopts the ring name “Miro.” Meanwhile, his wife Lana (CJ Perry) takes a break from wrestling to pursue other career opportunities. However, she eventually joins AEW by late 2023 and starts a feud with Miro. Lana is determined to teach Miro a lesson and seeks a new client to help her accomplish this, as she believes Miro has “lost his way.”
