Iyo Sky to defend WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 40 after Bayley’s unexpected revelation

Bayley made history with her first Royal Rumble victory, eliminating Liv Morgan and marking her inaugural ‘Road to WrestleMania’ moment by pointing at the WrestleMania XL sign. On the recent edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Bayley was slated to choose her opponent for WrestleMania 40.

She entered the ring with her faction members and surprised fans by selecting fellow Damage CTRL member Iyo Sky as her opponent for the WWE Women’s Championship at the Pennsylvania event.

Iyo Sky to defend WWE Women’s title vs Bayley at WrestleMania 40

Iyo Sky shocked the fans, when she with the help of Bayley, cashed in her Money in the Bank contract on SummerSlam 2023 on Bianca Belair for the WWE Women’s Championship. Since then Sky has been maintaining a streak of 181 days as the reigning champion.

However, that is likely going to change soon as Bayley, who earned the right to choose her WrestleMania opponent by winning the women’s Royal Rumble match, is ready for a title fight and has chosen Iyo Sky as her opponent. Bayley has been underappreciated for a long time and now she set to head to WrestleMania.

At first, she was supposed to face Rhea Ripley and even mentioned several times that she would come after Mami after she won the Battle Royal. On January 20, she posted a picture on Twitter captioning, “Call me Mami Slayer. I’m coming for you, Rhea Ripley.”

Rhea even proposed an ‘Iron Woman match’ after Bayley’s win at WWE Royal Rumble. But now she will face off against Iyo Sky and nothing is going to stop the 34-year-old WWE star from achieving her dream.

Bayley’s shocking admission to Damage CTRL

Bayley on the February 2 episode of SmackDown was set to reveal her future opponent for the ‘Biggest event of WWE’ at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After making her appearance, she confronted her faction members about speaking behind her back.

She said, “Sometimes the people that you thought were your biggest support system and friends … sometimes you have to prove them wrong.” After this, she shocked Iyo Sky, Asuka, & Kairi Sane by speaking in Japanese.

During the promo, “The Role Model” had her back turned toward her faction members, which both Sane and Asuka took advantage of to attack her. Bayley then used a hidden metal pipe and started to beat them down with it to save herself.

She then aimed her pipe toward Sky, who defended herself with the championship. After that, she took the microphone and told Iyo to prepare as she would face her at WrestleMania 40.

This is not the first time ‘The Kabuki Warriors’ betrayed Bayley’s trust. During an interview with The Bump, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion revealed that she was not aware of Asuka and Kairi Sane’s participation in the Women’s Royal Rumble match.

She said, “So, I told them, Damage CTRL, that this was my night. I told them that I was going to go on to the end. So, I honestly didn’t even expect for them to be in the match. We got rid of a lot of girls in there together. There was no lack of communication, alright? There’s always people… People are fighting for that spot, okay? I assumed that they knew what the gameplan was, and what my gameplan was, but I shouldn’t assume because you know what that means.”
