Jake Paul brings back Floyd Mayweather’s “gotcha hat” meme for his face off with Ryan Bourland

Jake Paul, along with his brother Logan Paul, spearheaded the crossover into the boxing realm, which began to attract interest when Logan faced off with the undefeated Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition boxing bout that ended with the result that a KO/TKO was the only way to determine a winner.

‘The Problem Child’ was present at the event to support his older brother and also created controversy when he had an infamous moment with Floyd Mayweather. Paul has recreated the incident again in his recent face-off against Ryan Bourland. Read more about what transpired below.

Jake Paul took off the hat of Floyd Mayweather and ran during the pre-fight press conference of Mayweather’s exhibition bout against Logan Paul. Similar to that incident, Paul took off the hat from his opponent Ryan Bourland during their face-off.

Paul is scheduled to fight Bourland in the co-main event of Amanda Serrano, the 2023 Women’s Fighter of the Year, versus Nina Meinke PPV and the duo had an intense face-off mediated by Nakisa Bidarian, the co-founder of MVP. After an intense face-off where the two exchanged words, Paul took off the cap from Bourland’s head and threw it to the audience, and thereby re-created the “gotcha hat” meme.

“Once again, Jake Paul has someone’s hat,” said noted MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, who had the mic at the face-offs. Funnily enough, Logan Paul was also at the event to support his younger brother. Nonetheless, unlike Mayweather, who was visibly upset by Paul’s actions, Bourland remained calm. Paul has not been able to get in the head of Bourland despite the actions but is a favorite against the ‘Rhino’.

What is the origin of Jake Paul’s “gotcha hat” meme?

The infamous “gotcha hat” prank was an unexpected twist into the build-up to the exhibition boxing bout between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul. The incident happened when Jake Paul confronted Mayweather and snatched his hat as he taunted “gotcha hat” before he attempted to run away.

Paul did it as a prank but the situation escalated quickly as Mayweather’s security detail intervened and thus created a scuffle between the teams of both parties. The reactions to the incident were mixed as some argued it in favor of promotional antics but others felt that the prank crossed the line.

Nonetheless, the prank brought more eyes to the already sensational event, and it even resulted in the event getting more than a million PPV buys. Moreover, the brawl also added a personal stake in the fight as Logan Paul vowed to avenge his brother.

It needs to be noted that Mayweather and his team tried to gang up on Jake Paul after the event as Paul was just outside after watching a Miami Dolphins NFL game. Sensing danger, Paul quickly fled from the scene at the time.
