Booker T reveals Sami Zayn being “legitimately upset” over negative fan reaction

Sami Zayn won the Gauntlet match at Monday Night RAW, earning him the spot to fight Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at the ‘Show of Shows’ WrestleMania 40. He pinned three WWE stars: Bronson Reed, Shinsuke Nakamura, & Chad Gable to earn his title shot.

A little while back, Hall of Famer Booker T revealed that Sami was disappointed after he won the match. According to ‘The King,’ Zayn was upset as he was expecting a positive reaction from fans since he defeated all his opponents fair and square, but instead, he got the reaction he least expected.

Booker T reveals Sami Zayn being “legitimately upset”

Sami Zayn, the former Bloodline member, recently faced off against Ricochet, JD McDonagh, Bronson Reed, Shinsuke Nakamura & Chad Gable on the recent edition of RAW, where the winner of the match will be scheduled to fight in ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’ in April for the Intercontinental Championship. The Gauntlet match saw Sami using his raw skills to outmaneuver his opponent to get the victory.

Former WWE superstar Booker T shared on the recent edition of his Hall of Fame Podcast that Zayn was “legitimately upset” after his win. He said, “I actually talked to Sami Zayn on Tuesday morning. We were flying to Orlando and we were sitting next to each other on the plane. I said, ‘Man, you know, what a match, man.’ I said, ‘What a match! You’re gonna look back on this one day and say that was the one, that was the one that catapulted me to the next level, that was the one that put me in the light and let people see exactly what I can do.”

The ‘Champion of Champions’ continued, saying, “He was so literally upset about the online heat that he got from the fans. He’s like, ‘Man, I thought the fans love me. And then next thing you know, I see all this stuff.’ I say, ‘Man, you can’t listen to that white noise. You’re gonna look back on it one day and say: ‘Man, that was some really, really good work that I did.’ But he still, like I said, was feeling that heat. He let someone down just because the fans didn’t think the match was as good as, you know. I thought it was.”

Although the hate from fans was intense, some fans still loved the fact that Sami was going to WrestleMania. The master of ‘Helluva Kick’ was set to face a wrestler like ‘The Ring General,” and fans wanted Zayn to break Gunther’s record in WM 40.

Sami Zayn receives Booker T support in Gunther feud

The leader of Imperium, Gunther has made it clear that he does not see Sami Zayn as a worthy opponent at the Philadelphia event. During an interview on RAW Digital Exclusive, Gunther said that his WM 40 opponent does not have what it takes to be in his position.

Booker T on his Hall of Fame Podcast shed light on his support for ‘The Great Liberator’ on his upcoming clash with Gunther. ‘The Black Snow’ said that Sami deserves to be where he is right now, as he earned that right by outperforming his opponents. Bokker believes fans should give the 39-year-old star a chance to prove himself, as he holds the potential to break Gunther’s 640+ days title-hold record.
