Will Rey Mysterio return in time for the Royal Rumble? WWE Hall of Famer provides update

After the WWE Crown Jewel 2023 event, Carlito accused Santos Escobar of being responsible for Rey Mysterio’s loss of the United States Championship title to Logan Paul. Escobar attacked Mysterio, which led to him leaving LWO due to an injury.

However, with WWE Royal Rumble 2024 approaching on January 27th, there is speculation about potential returns, and Mysterio is one of those superstars. Although the Master of 619 is currently injured, he is hoping to make a comeback at Tropicana Field.

Will Rey Mysterio return in time for the Royal Rumble?

In November last year, Santos Escobar attacked Rey Mysterio after becoming a heel. This was done to write him off WWE since Mysterio had knee surgery scheduled, which happened last month. Currently, he is healing and is hoping to make a comeback at the WWE Royal Rumble 2024 event.

After losing the United States Championship title to Logan Paul at WWE Crown Jewel 2023, Mysterio went on a hiatus. Fans were naturally curious about what WWE had in store for Mysterio after his defeat, but they were surprised by his sudden departure.

Rey Mysterio mentioned last Christmas that he was four weeks into his recovery. During a recent interview on the “Baker Banter” podcast, Mysterio was asked if he would return to the WWE at the Royal Rumble 2024 event. The Hall of Famer stated that he hopes to make his comeback at the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event on January 27th.

“I’m really working hard on my physical therapy. I just had knee surgery, thanks to Santos Escobar, and his time will come eventually. I do hope that I can return for the Rumble, if not shortly after that. I am working very hard to make my return as soon as possible,” said Rey Mysterio.

Rey Mysterio’s 2006 Royal Rumble performance still enthralls WWE Universe

Rey Mysterio is a legendary wrestler who won World Titles in WCW and WWE despite his small size. He is an underdog who has proven countless times how incredible of a performer he was. One of the greatest examples of that was his performance in the 2006 Royal Rumble match. He managed to combine various factors in what many consider the greatest Royal Rumble showing of all time.

Rey Mysterio was not considered a main event player in WWE before the 2006 Royal Rumble. However, his historic win at the event made him popular and he produced show-stealing matches. After the tragic death of Eddie Guerrero, Mysterio, his long-time friend and on-screen rival, decided to pay tribute to him by driving Guerrero’s iconic low-rider into the 2006 Rumble match. Mysterio entered the match at number two and faced off with one of the biggest stars in the match, Triple H.

In the 2006 Rumble match, Rey Mysterio lasted for 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 12 seconds and set a record. He eliminated Triple H and Randy Orton to win the match. It was a remarkable achievement for the underdog wrestler, especially considering the pressure of paying tribute to his friend and an all-time legend of the business. Mysterio later won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania.

Last year, the record for the longest participation in a Royal Rumble match which was held by The Master of 619 was broken by Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER, who entered the match as the number one participant and managed to last for an impressive hour and 11 minutes.
