WWE HOFer predicts “zero impact” on AEW’s business with Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone, who was formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, is currently a free agent in the wrestling industry. After leaving WWE, Mone signed with NJPW and is currently out of action due to knee injury.

However, Mercedes recently teased her return to ring by revealing a new gear. While there is no official confirmation on which promotion she would sign, a WWE Hall Of Famer recently shared his perspective on AEW’s business if Mone plans to sign with the promotion

Eric Bischoff downplays impact of Mercedes Mone going to AEW

Eric Bischoff, a former WWE and WCW executive currently signed with TNA, frequently shares his opinions about current wrestling events on his “83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff” podcast. In a recent interview on the 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff made a clear statement that Mercedes Martinez will make zero impact on AEW when she debuts.

He said, “Nothing. How many times have we seen big names come from WWE to AEW and people speculating how it’s going to impact the business and what’s going to happen? And nothing happens. It doesn’t matter who you bring in there.”

Bischoff stated that many superstars made their debut to AEW from WWE, but most of the time it created no difference to the promotion. He also added, “AEW is quickly becoming TNA, We’ve seen so many big names come into AEW. Pick one. Let’s put CM Punk off to the side. Pick any other one, and the net-net impact on the growth of the business, other than selling t-shirts, has been zip.”

Mercedes Mone reportedly making AEW debut soon

According to various reports, Mone is expected to sign with AEW, the rival promotion of WWE and make her debut on the live TV soon. Her contract in NJPW has expired, and currently, Mone is a free agent. One of the reasons for the delay of her AEW debut is said to be her demanding more money for her contract than Queen Charlotte Flair, who recently signed a multi-year contract with WWE.

AEW’s viewership has been dropped drastically after the World’s End Pay-per-view. The main reasons is said to be is MJF’s disappearance from the live TV, due to the expiration of the contract. He has not signed a new AEW contract after losing his title to Samoa Joe. This has potentially increased the possibility of Mone to sign with AEW as she is a famous star who could draw more viewership.

The debut date and storyline for Mone in AEW are still unknown, but some speculate that she will appear at the homecoming special of Dynamite on January 10, 2024.
