Frederic Vasseur confident Ferrari can go toe-to-toe with Red Bull for F1 Championship: “We will continue to push

For a considerable period of time, Ferrari faced significant challenges in keeping pace with their formidable rivals, Mercedes and Red Bull. Nevertheless, their primary drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, have been diligently striving to reverse the situation through their outstanding performances over the past few years.

Notably, Carlos was the sole driver, apart from Max Verstappen, to clinch a podium finish last year.  As a result, Fred Vasseur has also openly voiced optimism about their performances this year in recent media statements.

Frederic Vasseur talks on Ferrari’s chances to win F1 title

Fred Vasseur, the recently appointed team principal at Ferrari following Mattia Binotto’s departure in December, remains optimistic about the team’s ability to secure championship titles in the future. Despite being the only team to secure a victory last year, the Italian-based squad has faced persistent challenges, including strategic mistakes, technical failures, and low engine reliability during races.

This was notably observed in Charles Leclerc’s vehicle during the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix, with his performance evidently declining over time. However, their team boss has decided to not focus on negativity and instead prepare for a strong comeback, starting with this season’s next Grand Prix event.

Fred said, “I’m really convinced that Ferrari today, and, for sure, my experience is limited to the last two weeks, but we have everything to win. We have to put everything together to do a good job, but we have everything to be able to win.”

Carlos Sainz’s podium finish gives Ferrari confidence to challenge for F1 championship

This year has been tough for the Spanish driver, Carlos Sainz, as he received a sudden call from the team after hearing about his replacement a month ago. The team quickly decided to replace him with the seven-time World Champion starting in the 2025 season.

Even though Sainz was entirely heartbroken by the news, he took an oath to mark this year’s performance as the best one in his entire career, which is slowly turning into reality now. At this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix, the 29-year-old has managed to clinch a podium finish, boosting Ferrari’s confidence to pursue the upcoming championship title.

The leader of the Italian-based squad has proudly challenged the other teams, including their fiercest rivals on the grid, Red Bull. Vasseur stated, boasting his faith in their drivers, “When you are on a top team, you can’t have another target than the win.”

“You can’t start the season by say, ‘OK I would be happy with P2.’ It would be a lack of ambition. I think we have everything to do a good job, and the target has to be to win,” Fred added.
